2-Month Old Infant Suffered Apnea and Died Following 8 Vaccines
Conclusion After watching their son get buried, Cash’s parents were thrown into a world they didn’t know much about. They were now another set of grieving parents who senselessly lost their child due to medical practices recommended under a doctor’s care. Vaccines are being ignored when compiling infant mortality data. In 2013, Cash Dewayne Thomas was one of 23,440 babies who died in the United States before reaching their first birthday, according to the latest infant mortality data published in 2016. [19] About 11,300 newborns die within their first day of life, many soon after receiving their first hepatitis B vac...

Enhanced surveillance of tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccines in pregnancy in the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), 2011-2015.
CONCLUSIONS: No new or unexpected vaccine AEs were noted among pregnant women who received Tdap after routine recommendations for maternal Tdap vaccination. Changes in reporting patterns would be expected, given the broader use of Tdap in pregnant women in the third trimester. PMID: 27013434 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Safety and Immunogenicity of Cuban Antipneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine PCV7-TT in Healthy Adults.
CONCLUSIONS A single dose of candidate vaccine PCV7-TT was safe when used in healthy adults. Preliminary results showed that it was able to activate an immune response against the serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae used. Guidelines for the Management of a Pregnant Trauma Patient.
Authors: Jain V, Chari R, Maslovitz S, Farine D, Maternal Fetal Medicine Committee, Bujold E, Gagnon R, Basso M, Bos H, Brown R, Cooper S, Gouin K, McLeod NL, Menticoglou S, Mundle W, Pylypjuk C, Roggensack A, Sanderson F Abstract Objective: Physical trauma affects 1 in 12 pregnant women and has a major impact on maternal mortality and morbidity and on pregnancy outcome. A multidisciplinary approach is warranted to optimize outcome for both the mother and her fetus. The aim of this document is to provide the obstetric care provider with an evidence-based systematic approach to the pregnant trauma patient. Outcomes:...

Extensive swelling reaction after a pentavalent vaccination.
Abstract Injection site reactions (ISRs) are quite common side effects defined by a local adverse drug reaction directly caused by a vaccine. Twenty-four hours after an intramuscular injection (in the deltoid muscle) of the diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis, inactivated poliomyelitis, Haemophilus influenza type b (DTPCa-Hib) combined vaccine, a 3-year-old boy developed fever. A few hours later, local redness and swelling appeared at the injection site, with rapid extension to the entire limb, it was pain-free, and no other clinical anomalies were present. The patient received intravenous antibiotics for sus...

Vaccines for women for preventing neonatal tetanus.
CONCLUSIONS: Available evidence supports the implementation of immunisation practices on women of reproductive age or pregnant women in communities with similar, or higher, levels of risk of neonatal tetanus, to the two study sites. PMID: 26144877 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Needle size for vaccination procedures in children and adolescents.
CONCLUSIONS: Using 25 mm needles (either 23 G or 25 G) for intramuscular vaccination procedures in the anterolateral thigh of infants using the WHO injection technique probably reduces the occurrence of local reactions while achieving a comparable immune response to 25 G 16 mm needles. These findings are applicable to healthy infants aged two to six months receiving combination DTwP vaccines with a reactogenic whole-cell pertussis antigen component. These vaccines are predominantly used in developing countries. The applicability of the findings to vaccines with acellular pertussis components and other vaccines with differe...

By 2020, The Most Common HPV-Related Cancer Will Affect Men
While currently recommended for both boys and girls, the HPV vaccine was initially marketed -- and is still thought of -- as a way to protect young women and girls from cervical, vaginal and vulvar cancer. Boys, it's been commonly thought, should be vaccinated primarily to benefit herd immunity and any future female partners. But a new analysis from researchers at the Princess Margaret Cancer Center in Toronto, Canada, points out that boys who get the vaccine receive important protection as well, not only against genital warts, but against HPV strains that cause oropharyngeal (mouth and throat) cancer. "We believe this s...

Immunogenicity and reactogenicity of a decennial booster dose of a combined reduced-antigen-content diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis and inactivated poliovirus booster vaccine (dTpa-IPV) in healthy adults.
CONCLUSION: A booster dose of dTpa-IPV was immunogenic and well tolerated in adults who had received a booster dose of either dTpa-IPV, dTpa+IPV or Td-IPV, ten years previously and supports the repeated administration of dTpa-IPV. PMID: 25882172 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Why Target Vaccines?
Anti-vaccination campaigners have reached the forefront of the news. When a public health issue has reached the Jimmy Kimmel show, you know that it has reached the "big time." Seth Mnookin wrote the book The Panic Virus: The True Story of the Vaccine-Autism Controversy. Both Kimmel and Mnookin mentioned Jenny McCarthy, who has been quite vocal about her concerns about vaccines. More measles outbreaks have occurred in the past year than in the past decade, with the majority occurring among unvaccinated children. Buzzfeed asked vaccine expert Kate O'Brien of the International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) at the Johns Hopkins...

Safety and Immunogenicity of Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Acellular Pertussis Immunization During Pregnancy in Mothers and Infants: A Randomized Clinical Trial
ABSTRACT: Pertussis has reemerged in the United States despite high childhood immunization rates. To protect young infants, tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap) has been used in postpartum women and close contacts of infants, in previously Tdap unimmunized pregnant women, as well as in all pregnant women during every pregnancy, regardless of prior Tdap immunization. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was undertaken to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of Tdap vaccine administered to women in the third trimester of pregnancy. Healthy parturients aged 18 to 45 years a...

The safety and efficacy of the tetanus vaccine intramuscularly versus subcutaneously in anticoagulated patients: a randomized clinical trial
We present a prospective, double blinded, clinical trial comparing two groups of patients with oral anticoagulants: one group was administered tetanus-diphtheria vaccine by intramuscular injection, while the other was administered the same vaccine by subcutaneous injection. Allocation to each group was randomized and the duration of the study was six years.Study population: all patients treated with oral anticoagulants, who had been administered with at least one dose of vaccine, at 15 Health Centres in Vigo (Spain), and who agreed to participate in the study. The sample size was 115 patients in each group. The main variab...
