Relationship between pre-stroke cardiovascular medication use and stroke severity
Conclusion Pre-stroke use of statins is significantly associated with lower stroke severity. No significant relationship was detected between pre-stroke use of other medication groups and stroke severity, defined by the NIHSS score.

Development, Validation of LC-MS/MS Method and Determination of Pharmacokinetic Parameters of the Stroke Neuroprotectant Neurounina-1 in Beagle Dog Plasma After Intravenous Administration
Conclusion The developed and validated method to quantify neurounina-1 in beagle dog plasma using LC-MS/MS presented sensitivity and selectivity, thus allowing the rapid and precise determination of the pharmacokinetics of this neuroprotective compound working in the low nanomolar range. Ethics Statement This study was carried out in accordance with the recommendations of the general ethical guidelines established by the Brazilian Society for Laboratory Animal Science (SBCAL). The protocol was approved by the Committee for Ethics in Animal Use – State University of Campinas (CEUA/UNICAMP, protocol n° 3340-...

Knowledge of stroke and medication adherence among patients with recurrent stroke or transient ischemic attack in Indonesia: a multi-center, cross-sectional study
ConclusionStroke knowledge was low among Indonesian stroke survivors and independently related to medication adherence. Attempts should be made to increase stroke knowledge which may improve medication adherence among stroke survivors.

Characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine usage in patients with stroke in Taiwan: A nationwide population-based study
Conclusion Adjunctive TCM use may reduce the risk of mortality rate among stroke patients. Bu-yang-huan-wu-tang and Dan-shen are the most common prescribed Chinese herbal formula and single herb for stroke patients, respectively. Future study investigating the anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective efficacy of Bu-yang-huan-wu-tang and Dan-shen in stroke is warranted. Graphical abstract

The presence of Tau protein in blood as a potential prognostic factor in stroke patients.
Abstract Tau protein is found in the blood of 40 - 50% of patients in the acute phase of a stroke, as a result of the degradation of neurons and damage to the blood-brain barrier. The aim of the study was to assess the incidence of tau protein in the blood of stroke patients, as well as to evaluate the potential impact of tau protein presence in the blood of patients on their neurological state during the first 24 hours, and their functional condition three months after the stroke. Eighty-seven patients aged 39 - 99 (42 females and 45 males) diagnosed with stroke were enrolled in the prospective study (August 2014...

Sex Differences in Physical Activity and Incident Stroke: A Systematic Review
Clin Ther. 2022 Apr 10:S0149-2918(22)00076-5. doi: 10.1016/j.clinthera.2022.02.006. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: Physical inactivity, a modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease, is independently associated with stroke. Though some prior data have suggested sex differences in levels of physical activity, whether there are sex differences in the role of physical activity in primary stroke prevention is largely unknown. This systematic review identifies and describes recent findings on sex differences in the association between physical activity and incident (first-ever) stroke. This review also describes t...

Use of CHA2DS2-VASc score to predict the risk of ischemic stroke and mortality in patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting surgery: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Ischemic stroke was associated with a higher mortality risk after CABG. Higher CHA2DS2-VASc scores were associated with higher ischemic stroke risk. POAF did not significantly affect the relationship between CHA2DS2-VASc scores and ischemic stroke. CHA2DS2-VASc score can be used to predict ischemic stroke and mortality following CABG.PMID:36734704 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202301_31062
