Successful Peritoneal Dialysis Catheter Placement in a New End-Stage Renal Disease Patient with Combined Antiphospholipid Syndrome and Factor XI Deficiency.
We present the case of a 68-year-old woman with combined antiphospholipid syndrome and factor XI deficiency, with chronic prolongation of activated partial thromboplastin time that was not correctable with fresh-frozen plasma (FFP).The patient had a history of stroke, but was not on antiplatelet therapy because of mucocutaneous bleeding events. She had progressive renal failure attributed to her autoimmune disease, and a decision was made to pursue peritoneal dialysis (PD) when she reached end-stage kidney disease. Subjective Global Assessment-Dialysis Malnutrition Score and cardiovascular risk in hemodialysis patients: an observational cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: SGA-DMS is not a superior and significant prognostic tool compared to CCI and mCCI in assessing cardiovascular risk in HD patients, even it allows to appraise both malnutrition and comorbidity status.

Fibroblast Growth Factor-23 and Risks of Cardiovascular and Noncardiovascular Diseases: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusions The similarly-sized associations between increased FGF-23 concentration and cardiovascular (atherosclerotic and nonatherosclerotic) and noncardiovascular outcomes, together with the absence of any exposure–response relationship, suggest that the relationship between FGF-23 and cardiovascular disease risk may be noncausal.

Prognostic Value of High-Sensitivity Versus Conventional Cardiac Troponin T Assays Among Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Undergoing Maintenance Hemodialysis
ConclusionsIn patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus receiving hemodialysis, cardiac TnT is associated with long-term mortality and cardiovascular outcomes. Concentrations of TnT not measurable with acceptable precision using a conventional TnT assay were associated with a poor prognosis when measured using a high-sensitivity assay.

Cause-Specific Mortality in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease and Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSIONS: In a non-dialysis-dependent CKD population, the presence of AF was associated with higher all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. These data suggest that patients with both CKD and AF are at high cardiovascular risk, and thus clinical practice (or trials) should aim at reducing the overall excess cardiovascular mortality (not stroke alone) in patients with AF and CKD.

Lipids, Apolipoproteins, and Risk of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease in Persons With CKD
ConclusionsHigher VLDL-C and Apo-B levels, as well as lower HDL-C and Apo-AI levels, are associated with increased risk for ASCVD. These findings support future investigations into pharmacologic targeting of lipoproteins beyond LDL-C, such as triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, to reduce residual risk for ASCVD among individuals with CKD.

Etiology and Outcomes of Thrombotic Microangiopathies.
CONCLUSIONS: Secondary thrombotic microangiopathies represent the majority of thrombotic microangiopathies. Multiple thrombotic microangiopathies causes are present in one half of secondary thrombotic microangiopathies. The risks of dialysis, neurologic and cardiac complications, and death vary by the cause of thrombotic microangiopathies.
