No Significant Association Between Proton Pump Inhibitor Use and Risk of Stroke After Adjustment for Lifestyle Factors and Indication
Proton pump inhibitors (PPI) are among the top 10 most-prescribed medications worldwide. We investigated the association between PPI use and ischemic stroke.

Mo1147 SAFETY OF GASTROINTESTINAL ENDOSCOPY IN PATIENTS WITH STROKE IN THE SETTING OF GASTROINTESTINAL HEMORRHAGE: ANALYSIS OF NATIONWIDE INPATIENT SAMPLE (NIS) DATABASE
Gastrointestinal (GI) hemorrhage is a common complication in patients with cerebrovascular accidents. Reported incidence has ranged from 1% to 8% in several published studies. We studied a national inpatient database to assess the effects of GI endoscopy on mortality and length of hospital stay among patients with acute stroke.

Endoscopy Is Relatively Safe in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke and Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage
ConclusionsGastrointestinal endoscopy can be safely performed in a substantial number of patients with AIS and GIH.

Impact of inflammatory bowel disease on hospital outcomes in acute ischemic stroke: a nationwide cohort study
ConclusionsUC and CD do not appear to be associated with a higher risk of mortality or increased healthcare usage in AIS. AIS risk assessment in patients with IBD is important but should be done in a similar fashion to the general population.

Recurrent posterior strokes in inflammatory bowel disease patients.
Conclusion. The association between IBD and posterior strokes is a novel finding. Factor VIII elevation may serve as a biomarker of a peristroke hypercoagulable state in patients with IBD. PMID: 25784930 [PubMed]

Videofluoroscopic assessment of the pathophysiology of chronic poststroke oropharyngeal dysphagia
ConclusionsImpaired safety of swallow in chronic poststroke patients is caused by specific impairments in swallow response including delayed timing of airway protection mechanisms and weak tongue propulsion forces. Treatments aiming to restore swallowing function in poststroke patients with OD should be targeted to improve these critical biomechanical events. Impaired safety of swallow in chronic post‐stroke patients is caused by specific impairments in swallow response including delayed timing of airway protection mechanisms and weak tongue propulsion forces. Laryngeal vestibule closure time ≥340ms predicts unsafe sw...

Heart rate variability is associated with outcome in spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage
ConclusionsAutonomic changes seems to be present in acute ICH and are associated with poor outcome independently. This may have future monitoring and therapeutic implications.

The impact of intravenous fluid administration on complication rates in bowel surgery within an enhanced recovery protocol: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionIntra‐operative administration of iv water and electrolyte during bowel surgery, based on stroke volume measured using oesophageal Doppler, was associated with decreased complication rates.

Effect of surface sensory and motor electrical stimulation on chronic poststroke oropharyngeal dysfunction
Conclusions & InferencesSurface e‐stim is a safe and effective treatment for chronic poststroke dysphagic patients. Chronic post‐stroke oropharyngeal dysfunction (OD) is a common condition, leading to severe complications, including death. Treatments for chronic post‐stroke OD are scarce. Surface electrical stimulation is a safe and effective treatment for chronic post‐stroke dysphagic patients.

Mylohyoid motor evoked potentials can effectively predict persistent dysphagia 3  months poststroke
Conclusions and InferencesMH‐MEP was well‐correlated with dysphagia severity assessed by VFSS. The rMT ratio and amplitude ratio of MH‐MEP can effectively predict persistent dysphagia 3 months poststroke. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between MH‐MEP and swallowing function and determine the value of MH‐MEP for predicting aspiration three months post‐stroke. MH‐MEP was well correlated with dysphagia severity assessed by VFSS. The MH‐MEP can effectively predict persistent dysphagia 3 months post‐stroke.

Predictors of inadequate bowel preparation for colonoscopy: a systematic review and meta-analysis
The aim of this study was to investigate factors contributing to poor bowel preparation in patients undergoing colonoscopy procedures. We used a reproducible search strategy to identify studies, searching 10 medical databases, including PubMed, Ovid, Medline, and Cochrane Library Database for reports published between 2000 and 2016. Fully published studies, evaluating risk factors for inadequate bowel preparation, were included. Two reviewers independently scored the identified studies for methodology and abstracted pertinent data. Pooling was conducted with both fixed-effects and random-effects models; results were presen...
