A calcium channel or angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor/angiotensin receptor blocker regime to reduced blood pressure variability in acute ischaemic stroke (CAARBS): A feasibility trial
Trials of lowering blood pressure in patients with acute ischaemic stroke not undergoing thrombolysis have not demonstrated improved outcomes with intervention. Rather than absolute levels, it may be that blood pressure variability is important. However, there are no prospective randomised trials investigating the benefit of reducing blood pressure variability in this patient group.

A novel CACNA1A variant in a child with early stroke and intractable epilepsy
ConclusionWe present the second case of recurrent ischemic strokes in a patient withCACNA1A mutation. Our findings expand the phenotypic heterogeneity related to Cav2.1 (P/Q‐type) calcium channel dysfunction and suggest consideration ofCACNA1A disorder in evaluation of pediatric strokes.

Endoplasmic Reticulum Interaction Supports Energy Production and Redox Homeostasis in Mitochondria Released from Astrocytes
In this study, we investigated the molecular mechanisms that underlie mitochondria secretion, redox status, and functional regulation in the extracellular environment. Exposure of rat primary astrocytes to NAD or cADPR elicited an increase in mitochondrial calcium through ryanodine receptor (RyR) in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Importantly, CD38 stimulation with NAD accelerated ATP production along with increasing glutathione reductase (GR) and dipicolinic acid (DPA) in intracellular mitochondria. Thoracic Aortic Calcium For The Prediction Of Stroke Mortality (From The Coronary Artery Calcium Consortium)
Thoracic aortic calcium(TAC) is an important marker of extra-coronary atherosclerosis with established predictive value for all-cause mortality. We sought to explore the predictive value of TAC for stroke mortality, independent of the more established coronary artery calcium(CAC) score. The CAC Consortium is a retrospectively assembled database of 66,636 patients aged ≥18 years with no prior history of cardiovascular disease, baseline CAC scans for risk stratification, and follow-up for 12±4 years.

CONCLUSIONS: Red blood cell–rich, fibrin-rich, and platelet-rich clot analogs that mimic clots retrieved from patients with acute ischemic stroke were created in vitro. Differing retrieval outcomes were confirmed using in vitro thrombectomy testing in a subset of clots.
