A multicenter study of the impella device for mechanical support of the systemic circulation in pediatric and adolescent patients
ConclusionTemporary circulatory support with Impella devices is feasible in pediatric and adolescent patients, with acceptable risk profiles. More experience and follow up is needed to improve technical performance and patient selection. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Cell therapy for cerebral hemorrhage: Five year follow-up report.
Authors: Chang Z, Mao G, Sun L, Ao Q, Gu Y, Liu Y Abstract The aim of the study was to examine treatment of cerebral hemorrhages with bone-marrow or human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs or Hu-MSCs) and conventional surgical approaches, and determine and compare the effectiveness, feasibility, safety and reproducibility of each method. A retrospective analysis was performed on a cohort of cell-treated cerebral hemorrhage patients from October 1, 2007 to October 1, 2009. A total of 24 patients, all of whom received conventional surgical treatment, were classified as follows: i) The control group...

Echocardiographic assessment of right heart function in heart transplant recipients and the relation to exercise hemodynamics
ConclusionRV systolic function is reduced in HTx patients compared with controls. 3D RVEF and 2D longitudinal deformation analysis are associated with clinical performance in stable HTx patients and seem suitable in non‐invasive routine right heart function evaluation after HTx. Invasively assessed RV systolic reserve was strongly associated with exercise capacity. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Clinical outcomes in overweight heart transplant recipients
Conclusions Overweight HT patients had better survival, but more rejections, CAV, and diabetes. Non-overweight HT patients had worse survival, plus more re-hospitalization time, lymphoma, and renal dysfunction.

Stroke-Related Hospitalization and Mortality After a Kidney Allograft: A Population-Cohort Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Fatal and nonfatal stroke-related events are common among kidney allograft recipients. Further research is warranted to allow better risk stratification and facilitate clinical trials for risk attenuation of stroke after a kidney transplant. Adherence to antihypertensive therapy among heart transplant recipients.
CONCLUSIONS: Creation of an active attitude of the patient in the process of treatment is a crucial and at the same time often difficult task demanding cooperation of the patient, the patient's close family and the whole therapeutic team. PMID: 26336447 [PubMed]

The Effect of Institutional Volume on Complications and Their Impact on Mortality After Pediatric Heart Transplantation
Conclusions No association was observed between institutional volume and adjusted or unadjusted long-term survival. High-volume institutions have a significantly lower rate of postoperative complications after pediatric OHT. This association does not correlate with increased subsequent mortality in low-volume institutions. Given these findings, strategies integral to the allocation of allografts in adult transplantation, such as regionalization of care, may not be as relevant to pediatric OHT.

Effect of intraoperative transesophageal Doppler-guided fluid therapy versus central venous pressure-guided fluid therapy on renal allograft outcome in patients undergoing living donor renal transplant surgery: a comparative study
Conclusions FTc-guided intraoperative fluid therapy achieved the same rate of immediate graft function as CVP–guided fluid therapy but used a significantly less amount of fluid. The incidence of postoperative complications related to fluid overload was also reduced. The use of TED may replace invasive central line insertions in the future.

Implantation of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells for ischemic stroke: perspectives and challenges
Abstract Ischemic stroke is a focal cerebral insult that often leads to many adverse neurological complications severely affecting the quality of life. The prevalence of stroke is increasing throughout the world, while the efficacy of current pharmacological therapies remains unclear. As a neuroregenerative therapy, the implantation of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) has shown great possibility to restore function after stroke. This review article provides an update role of hUC-MSCs implantation in the treatment of ischemic stroke. With the unique “immunosuppressive and immunoprivilege” ...

The Policy of Placing Older Donors into Older Recipients: Is it Worth the Risk?
ConclusionsUse of older donors (50yrs) in older recipients (60yrs) results in lower 5‐yr survival and freedom from CAV. Caution is required in these cases. Larger studies are warranted to confirm findings. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

RNase A in (Xeno)Transplantation
ConclusionsRNase A significantly improved graft survival. On the basis of these sweeping results, however, we suppose that RNase A could be an important adjuvant drug not only in allotransplantation but even in xenotransplantation.
