Degree of Carotid Artery Stenosis in Neurologically Asymptomatic Cardiac Surgical Patients Suffering from Perioperative Stroke: Results of an Observational Study.
Conclusion This observational study demonstrates that the degree of carotid stenosis in neurologically asymptomatic cardiac surgical patients is not able to predict the probability of perioperative stroke. Until further results from prospective randomized trials with neurologically asymptomatic cardiac surgical patients are presented, a cautious attitude for concomitant carotid endarterectomy is still justified. Investigation of S-Nitrosoglutathione in stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis of literature in pre-clinical and clinical research.
CONCLUSIONS: Pre-clinical studies showed positive benefit of GSNO in animal stroke models. The meta-analysis of clinical studies demonstrated that GSNO is effective in reducing embolic signals in patients with symptomatic internal carotid artery stenosis undergoing carotid endarterectomy or stenting. Carotid Plaque Characteristics Predict Recurrent Ischemic Stroke and TIA: The PARISK (Plaque At RISK) Study
CONCLUSIONS: IPH and total plaque volume are independent risk factors for recurrent ipsilateral ischemic stroke or TIA in patients with mild-to-moderate carotid stenosis. A Retrospective Study on Early Carotid Endarterectomy within 48 Hours after Transient Ischemic Attack and Stroke in Evolution
Conclusions: CEA can be performed with an acceptable risk in properly selected symptomatic patients within 48 hours after TIA or SIE. The benefits of early CEA in symptomatic patients include the prevention of recurrent stroke.
