TEFCA, QHINs, HDUs, and Interoperability with Civitas CEO Lisa Bari
Civitas Networks for Health is a non-profit consortium that brings together a broad community of organizations interested in health data exchange. Many members are HIEs, but a number of other organizations in health care including community organizations are members as well. Civitas started only two and half years ago, but already have 165 members spread across the country. In this short video, CEO Lisa Bari describes the most interesting aspects of Civitas’s recent conference. She said that people coming out of COVID-related isolation were eager to join workshops so that organizations such as HIEs, quality improveme...

“I’d rather wait and see what’s around the corner”: A multi-perspective qualitative study of treatment escalation planning in frailty
ConclusionBarriers to treatment escalation planning include a lack of shared understanding of frailty and uncertainty about the future. Emergency decision-making is focussed on survival or risk aversion and patient preferences are rarely considered. To improve planning discussions, we recommend frailty training for non-specialist clinicians, multi-disciplinary support, collaborative working between patients, carers and clinicians as well as broader public engagement.

Ten resources for understanding bias in health research: EBM live workshop 2022
Introduction Previous articles introduced resources for practising1 and teaching2 evidence-based medicine (EBM) and healthcare (EBHC). In an in-person workshop at the 2022 EBM live conference in Oxford, participants were invited to consider resources on bias in health research, contribute to a database of such studies and disseminate their learning. This paper shares insights from the workshop. Resource selection process The resource selection process is outlined in figure 1. Briefly, participants (n=25), in small groups, were given time to list and discuss resources they deemed useful for understanding bias in health rese...

Eight novel brominated flame retardants in indoor and outdoor dust samples from the E-waste recycling industrial park: Implications for human exposure
This study investigated the occurrence characteristics, distribution, and exposure profiles of eight common NBFRs and their derivatives in an e-waste recycling industrial park in central China and illustrated the differences in various functional zones in the recycling park. The highest level of ΣNBFRs in dust samples was found in e-waste storage area at median concentration of 27,400 ng/g, followed by e-waste dismantling workshops (23,300 ng/g), workshop outdoor area (7770 ng/g), and residential area outdoor (536 ng/g). In the e-waste dismantling associated dust samples, tetrabromobisphenol A bis(2,3-dibromopropyl ether)...

Mapping global evidence on injuries/trauma due to sexual and gender-based violence for research prioritisation and development of guidelines to mitigate their impact: a scoping review protocol
This study will include evidence sources focused on the epidemiological burden, guidelines for out-of-hospital and in-hospital care of victims, barriers or facilitators to reporting and obtaining healthcare, and approaches for mitigating injuries/trauma due to SGBV. The search will be limited to publications within 10 ye ars (2012 to 2023). Two authors will apply the eligibility criteria to identify potentially relevant citations. The data will be extracted in duplicate and methodological quality assessed using varied tools (Mixed Method Quality Appraisal Tool; and Appraisal of Guidelines, Research and Evaluation in strum...

Ensuring Fairness in Medical Education Assessment
This study takes a first step in centering the margins as we as medical educators grow our understanding of the dynamics of promoting fairness in assessment. Future studies should explore feedback with intentional inclusion and involvement of diverse students, teachers, and researchers at every stage of the research process from conceptualization through dissemination and application of the new learning. We thank our participants for their time and candor discussing this sensitive topic and the Group on Educational Affairs for funding our work. Thank you for your time and attention and the focus that you’ll put on th...

Cultural adaptations and methodological innovations to group model building for the systems actions to reduce malnutrition in all its forms in Southeast Asian countries and China (SYSTAM CHINA-SEACS International Consortium) project
CONCLUSIONS: Cultural and methodological adaptations to the common GMB process for an Asian LMIC setting were successful. The 'hybrid' GMB format is feasible, cost-effective, and more environmentally friendly. These cultural adaptations could be considered for other Asian settings and beyond to address inter-related, complex issues such as MIAIF.PMID:37723534 | DOI:10.1186/s12966-023-01510-5
