Quality improvement interventions to increase the uptake of magnesium sulphate in preterm deliveries for the prevention of cerebral palsy (PReCePT study): a cluster randomised controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: PReCePT improved MgSO4 uptake in all maternity units. Enhanced support did not further improve uptake but may improve teamwork, and more accurately represented the time needed for implementation. Targeted enhanced support, sustainability of improvements and the possible indirect benefits of stronger teamwork associated with enhanced support should be explored further.PMID:37691262 | DOI:10.1111/1471-0528.17651

Nutritional quality of calorie restricted diets in the CALERIE ™ 1 trial
CONCLUSION: Long-term, calorie-restricted diets were nutritionally equal or superior to baseline ad libitum diets among adults without obesity. Our results support modest calorie restriction as a safe strategy to promote healthy aging without compromising nutritional adequacy or diet quality.PMID:35643360 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2022.111840

Enhancement of lipid accumulation in microalga Desmodesmus sp. VV2: Response Surface Methodology and artificial neural network modeling for biodiesel production
This study is suggesting that the fatty acid profile of Desmodesmus sp. VV2 attained under optimized media conditions would be suitable for biodiesel production for future energy demand.PMID:35007613 | DOI:10.1016/j.chemosphere.2021.133477

Divergent effects of sex and calcium/vitamin D supplementation on serum magnesium and markers of bone structure and function during initial military training
The objectives of this secondary analysis were to 1) compare dietary magnesium intake and serum magnesium in female and male recruits pre- and post- IMT, 2) determine whether serum magnesium was related to parameters of bone health pre-IMT, and 3) whether calcium and vitamin D supplementation (Ca/vitamin D) during IMT modified serum magnesium. Females (n=62) and males (n=51) consumed 2,000 mg calcium and 1,000 IU vitamin D/d or placebo during IMT (12 weeks). Dietary magnesium intakes were estimated using FFQ, serum magnesium was assessed, and pQCT was performed on the tibia. Dietary magnesium intakes for females and males ...

Prediction of irrigation groundwater quality parameters using ANN, LSTM, and MLR models
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2021 Nov 8. doi: 10.1007/s11356-021-17084-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTForecasting the irrigation groundwater parameters helps plan irrigation water and crop, and it is commonly expensive because it needs various parameters, mainly in developing nations. Therefore, the present research's core objective is to create accurate and reliable machine learning models for irrigation parameters. To accomplish this determination, three machine learning (ML) models, viz. long short-term memory (LSTM), multi-linear regression (MLR), and artificial neural network (ANN), have been trained. It is validated...

Should You Let Your Doctor Monitor Your Medication Intake?
A new pill has been approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) that, when swallowed, notifies a monitoring device you wear that you actually took the medication. Sounds invasive and a gross violation of your privacy? Well, it would be. Except for the small problem that every year, millions of people say or agree to take a medication, and then stop taking it when they start to feel better. It’s a long-standing problem for people diagnosed with certain types of mental illness, and leads to serious and significant problems — for the patient, their family, and society as a whole. The new medication...

Manganese in Drinking Water and Cognitive Abilities and Behavior at 10 Years of Age: A Prospective Cohort Study
Conclusions: Elevated prenatal W-Mn exposure was positively associated with cognitive function in girls, whereas boys appeared to be unaffected. Early life W-Mn exposure appeared to adversely affect childrens behavior. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP631 Received: 19 January 2016 Revised: 08 June 2016 Accepted: 23 June 2016 Published: 26 May 2017 Corresponding author: Address correspondence to M. Interventions for managing asthma in pregnancy.
CONCLUSIONS: Based on eight included trials, of moderate quality overall, no firm conclusions about optimal interventions for managing asthma in pregnancy can be made. Five trials assessing pharmacological interventions did not provide clear evidence of benefits or harms to support or refute current practice. While inhaled magnesium sulphate for acute asthma was shown to reduce exacerbations, this was in one small trial of unclear quality, and thus this finding should be interpreted with caution. Three trials assessing non-pharmacological interventions provided some support for the use of such strategies, however were not ...
