This article reviews the current regulatory role of miR-7 in inflammation and related diseases, including viral infection, autoimmune hepatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and encephalitis. It expounds on the molecular mechanism by which miR-7 regulates the occurrence of inflammatory diseases. Finally, the existing problems and future development directions of miR-7-based intervention on inflammation and related diseases are discussed to provide new references and help strengthen the understanding of the pathogenesis of inflammation and related diseases, as well as the development of new strategies for clinical interventi...

Pterostilbene ameliorates type-2 diabetes mellitus - induced depressive-like behavior by mitigating insulin resistance, inflammation and ameliorating HPA axis dysfunction in rat brain
Brain Res. 2023 Jul 19:148494. doi: 10.1016/j.brainres.2023.148494. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOne of the most serious mental health comorbidities associated with diabetes mellitus is depression. The occurrence is almost double in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) compared with the general population. Pterostilbene (PTE), a dimethylated analog of resveratrol, has been reported for significant neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, hypolipidemic, hypoglycaemic and antioxidant effects. However, its effect on diabetes-induced depression-like behavior (DID) has not been studied. The current study aimed at studying the effects of...

In this study, cultured adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) were derived from subcutaneous white adipose tissue isolated from mice fed a normal diet. We performed senescence-associated-β-galactosidase (SA-β-gal) staining, real-time PCR, and Western blot to evaluate the levels related to cellular senescence markers. The mRNA expression levels of senescence markers were significantly increased in the later passages of ASCs. We show that light activation reduced the expression of senescent genes, and SA-β-Gal in all cells at passages. Moreover, the light-activated ASCs-derived exosomes decrease the expression of senes...

Oxidative brain and cerebellum injury in diabetes and prostate cancer model: Protective effect of metformin
J Biochem Mol Toxicol. 2023 Jun 24:e23440. doi: 10.1002/jbt.23440. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe body can host the spread of prostate cancer cells. Metastases from prostate cancer are more frequently seen in the brain, liver, lungs, and lymph nodes. A well-known antidiabetic drug, metformin, is also known to have antitumor effects. Our study focuses on the evaluation of potential metformin protective effects on brain and cerebellum damage in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic and Dunning prostate cancer models. In this investigation, six groups of male Copenhagen rats were created: control, diabetic (D), cancer (C),...

In this study, we investigated the effect of NXP032 on neurovascular stabilization through the changes of PECAM-1, PDGFR-β, ZO-1, laminin, and glial cells involved in maintaining the integrity of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in aged mice. NXP032 was orally administered daily for 8 weeks. Compared to young mice and NXP032-treated mice, 20-month-old mice displayed cognitive impairments in Y-maze and passive avoidance tests. NXP032 treatment contributed to reducing the BBB damage by attenuating the fragmentation of microvessels and reducing PDGFR-β, ZO-1, and laminin expression, thereby mitigating astrocytes and microglia ...

Portulaca oleracea L. (purslane) improves the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and autophagic actions of metformin in the hippocampus of diabetic demented rats
In conclusion, antidiabetic agents as metformin and purslane extract proved to be invaluable in addressing the cognitive decline and hippocampal changes that arise as a complication of diabetes. They mainly acted through AMPK pathway; however, their usefulness was not limited to AMPK pathways since their combination was suggested to have a different mechanism.PMID:37295752 | DOI:10.1016/j.fitote.2023.105566

Effect of anthocyanin-rich blackberry juice on endoplasmic reticulum stress in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
This study investigates blackberry juice's effects on glucose metabolism, oxidative stress, inflammation, and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ER) in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Fifty Wistar rats were distributed to five groups randomly of ten rats each: Normal control, diabetic control, 9 mL/kg body weight (b.wt) blackberry juice only, blackberry juice plus diabetes, and 500 mg/kg b.wt metformin plus diabetes. A single intraperitoneal injection of 50 mg/kg b.wt STZ induced diabetes in the rats. This animal study continued for 56 days after the confirmation of diabetes. The levels of liver function and renal f...

A Review on the Efficacy of Plant-derived Bio-active Compounds Curcumin and Aged Garlic Extract in Modulating Cancer and Age-related Diseases
Curr Rev Clin Exp Pharmacol. 2023 May 4. doi: 10.2174/2772432819666230504093227. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAging is a process characterized by accumulating degenerative changes resulting in the death of an organism. Aging is mediated by various pathways that are directly linked to the individual's lifespan and are shunted for many age-related diseases. Many strategies for alleviating age-related diseases have been studied, which can target cells and molecules. Modern drugs such as Metformin, Rapamycin, and other drugs are used to reduce the effects of age-related diseases. Despite their beneficial activity, they posses...

The ameliorative effect of zinc acetate with caffeic acid in the animal model of type 2 diabetes
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Apr 27;163:114779. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.114779. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRecently the complexation-mediated antioxidative and glycaemic control synergism between zinc(II) and caffeic acid was demonstrated in vitro. The present study evaluated the complexation-mediated antidiabetic and antioxidative synergism between zinc(II) and caffeic acid in diabetic rats and the possible underlying mechanisms. Male SD rats were induced with diabetes using 10% fructose and 40 mg/kg bw streptozotocin. The diabetic rats were treated with Zn(II)-caffeic acid complex and its precursors (caffeic acid and ...
