Meta-analysis of primary care delivered buprenorphine treatment retention outcomes
Conclusions: While we only investigate BT through primary care, our findings indicate retention rates are equivalent to the rates reported in the specialty care literature. More work is needed to examine factors that may impact primary care delivered BT specifically and differentiate participants that may benefit from care delivered in specialty over primary care as well as the converse.PMID:37737714 | DOI:10.1080/00952990.2023.2251653

Opioid Prescribing Habits of Emergency Department Providers in Response to an Educational Intervention
CONCLUSION: Overall, the educational intervention on the topic of opioid prescribing guidelines did not have the expected impact on amounts of opioids administered or prescribed during the study period. Total opioids utilized and opioids prescribed did not vary between the pre- and post-intervention groups overall, by subset diagnosis, or by provider. There was, however, an increase in utilization of non-opioid treatments that could be indicative of a partial response to the educational intervention. This study showed that long-term effects of education regarding recommended opioid utilization might be less effective than ...

Economics of Fertility Care
Family building is a human right. The high cost and lack of insurance coverage associated with fertility treatments in the United States have made treatment inaccessible for many patients. The universal uptake of “add-on” services has further contributed to high out-of-pocket costs. Expansion in access to infertility care has occurred in several states through implementation of insurance mandates, and more employers are offering fertility benefits to attract and retain employees. An understanding of the economic issues shaping fertility should inform future policies aimed at promoting evidence-based practices and impro...
