CONCLUSIONS: When compared to a lower-dose regimen, higher-dose anticoagulants result in little to no difference in all-cause mortality and increase minor bleeding in people hospitalised with COVID-19 up to 30 days. Higher-dose anticoagulants possibly reduce pulmonary embolism, slightly increase major bleeding, may result in little to no difference in hospitalisation time, and may result in little to no difference in deep vein thrombosis, stroke, major adverse limb events, myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, or thrombocytopenia. Failure of Therapeutic Anticoagulation in COVID-19 Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke. A Retrospective Multicenter Study
ConclusionsThe occurrence of an anticoagulation failure seems to be increased in the setting of COVID-19 infection, with worse clinical outcomes if compared to non-COVID-19 related ischemic strokes. We discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic implications of such evidence, suggesting that some arterial thrombotic complications might be either resistant to or independent of the anticoagulation effect.

Implications of atrial fibrillation on the clinical course and outcomes of hospitalized COVID-19 patients: results of the Cardio-COVID-Italy multicentre study
ConclusionAmong hospitalized patients with COVID-19, a history of AF contributes to worse clinical course with a higher mortality and in-hospital events including new-onset AF, acute HF, and multiorgan failure. The mortality risk remains significant after adjustment for variables associated with COVID-19 severity and comorbidities.

Stroke management during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic: experience from three regions of the north east of Italy (Veneto, Friuli-Venezia-Giulia, Trentino-Alto-Adige)
ConclusionsOur study confirmed a decrease in admission rate of stroke patients in a large area of northern Italy during the lockdown period, especially during the first dramatic phase. Overall, there was no decrease in thrombolysis rate, confirming an effect of emergency care system for stroke patients. Instead, the significant decrease in thrombectomy rate during lockdown addresses some considerations of local and regional stroke networks during COVID-19 pandemic evolution.

Who is really blind in the time of coronavirus: the patient or the doctor? A rare case of Balint ’s syndrome
ConclusionDuring SARS-CoV2 pandemic, Italian physicians were forced to work with less instrumental diagnostic resources, relying on their clinical knowledge mostly. The aim of this case report is to highlight the importance of performing a precise neurological evaluation, particularly during these challenging times: it might avoid incorrect diagnosis and favour the discovery of rare clinical diseases.

Discontinuation of botulinum neurotoxin type-A treatment during COVID-19 pandemic: an Italian survey in post stroke and traumatic brain injury patients living with spasticity.
CONCLUSIONS: The discontinuation of BoNT-A treatment was associated with worsening of activities and participation and perceived spasticity. COVID-19 related problems and rehabilitation showed an association with loss of independence. CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: This study will provide useful information in the field of spasticity management using a patient's centred approach, with consistent quantitative and qualitative information. Neurosurgery in times of a pandemic: a survey of neurosurgical services during the COVID-19 outbreak in the Veneto region in Italy.
CONCLUSIONS: This multicenter study describes the effects of a COVID-19 outbreak on neurosurgical activities in a vast region in Italy. Remodulation of neurosurgical activities has resulted in a significant reduction of elective and emergency surgeries compared to previous years. Most likely this is a combined result of cancellation of elective and postponable surgeries, increase of conservative management, increase in social restrictions, and in patients' fear of accessing hospitals.
