Acupuncture for hypertension.
CONCLUSIONS: At present, there is no evidence for the sustained BP lowering effect of acupuncture that is required for the management of chronically elevated BP. The short-term effects of acupuncture are uncertain due to the very low quality of evidence. The larger effect shown in non-sham acupuncture controlled trials most likely reflects bias and is not a true effect. Future RCTs must use sham acupuncture controls and assess whether there is a BP lowering effect of acupuncture that lasts at least seven days. PMID: 30480757 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effects of Kudiezi Injection on Serum Inflammatory Biomarkers in Patients with Acute Cerebral Infarction.
Conclusion: Kudiezi injection could lead to early reduction of interleukin-6, interleukin-18, matrix metaloproteinase-9, neuron-specific enolase, and S100 calcium-binding protein B levels and increases of interleukin-10 levels in patients with acute ischemic stroke. This study aimed to determine the TIMD4-HAVCR1 variants, their haplotypes and gene-environment interactions on serum lipid levels, the risk of CHD and IS, and the lipid-lowering efficacy of atorvastatin in a southern Chinese Han population. Conversion and pharmacokinetics profiles of a novel pro-drug of 3-n-butylphthalide, potassium 2-(1-hydroxypentyl)-benzoate, in rats and dogs.
In this study, we investigated the conversion and pharmacokinetics profiles of dl-PHPB in vitro and in vivo. The conversion of dl-PHPB to dl-NBP was pH- and calcium-dependent, and paraoxonase was identified as a major enzyme for the conversion in rat plasma. The pharmacokinetics, tissue distribution and excretion of dl-PHPB were studied and compared with equal-molar doses of dl-NBP in rats and dogs. Use of drug treatment for secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease in urban and rural communities of China: China Kadoorie Biobank Study of 0.5million people
Conclusions: Despite recent improvements in hospital care in China, only one in three individuals with prior CVD was routinely treated with any proven secondary preventive drugs. The treatment rates were correlated with the existence of other risk factors, in particular evidence of hypertension.
