Adult-to-adult living donor liver transplantation preoperative survey using MDCT, a single medical center experience in Taiwan
This study evaluated multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) scans performed on potential living donors for adult-to-adult liver transplantation (LDLT), with the aim of identifying significant findings that could be used to exclude potential transplantation donors. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 151 consecutive potential adult donors for LDLT from May 2007 to January 2015. Liver parenchyma steatosis, focal hepatic mass or intraabdominal malignancy, vascular variations, and donor liver volume were evaluated via MDCT. Grounds for excluding potential donors were also recorded and analyzed. Of the 151 pot...

Reimagining liver transplantation in South Africa: A model for justice, equity and capacity building - the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre experience.
Authors: Tager S, Etheredge HR, Fabian J, Botha JF Abstract The challenge of providing effective and integrated liver transplant services across South Africa's two socioeconomically disparate healthcare sectors has been faced by Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre (WDGMC) since 2004. WDGMC is a private academic hospital in Johannesburg and serves to supplement the specialist and subspecialist medical training provided by the University of the Witwatersrand. Over the past 14 years, our liver transplant programme has evolved from a sometimes fractured service into the largest-volume liver centre in sub-Saharan Africa. ...

Ultrasound ‐guided portal vein puncture during Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt: Technique and experience of a quaternary liver transplant hospital
ConclusionTransabdominal ultrasound-guided portal vein puncture during TIPS is safe and technically feasible. When compared to fluoroscopically guided methods, it is associated with lower intraprocedural complication rates, fluoroscopy times, contrast volumes and radiation doses in our experience. Radiation doses, FTs and contrast volumes were also considerably lower than recommended limits.

The use of simulation in liver transplantation anesthesiology fellowship training: A survey of fellowship program directors in the United States
CONCLUSIONS: Simulation is an important component of anesthesiology trainee education, as evidenced by the requirement for simulation during residency by the American Council for Graduate Medical Education. Our findings suggest that simulation is an underutilized educational tool that we believe could greatly augment the training of liver transplantation anesthesiology fellows by providing exposure to a wide range of clinical challenges.PMID:37398991 | DOI:10.1111/ctr.15055

New Antiviral Treatment Could Significantly Reduce Global Burden Of Hepatitis C
Scientists show potential impact of therapy in reducing transmission in UK, Canada and Australia Around 150 million people globally are chronically infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) - a major cause of liver disease and the fastest growing cause of liver transplantation and liver cancer. 1 New prevention strategies are urgently required as people are continuing to be infected with HCV. Findings, published in Hepatology, reveal the impact of a new antiviral treatment that could potentially reduce HCV rates in some cities affected by chronic HCV prevalence by half over 15 years...
