Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 3763: Design and Micro-Fabrication of Focused High-Frequency Needle Transducers for Medical Imaging
In this study, we report an advanced fabrication technique to develop a miniature focused needle transducer. Two different types of high-frequency (100 MHz) transducers were fabricated using the lead magnesium niobate-lead titanate (PMN-0.3PT) and lithium niobate (LiNbO3) single crystals. In order to enhance the transducer’s performance, a unique mass–spring matching layer technique was adopted, in which gold and parylene play the roles of the mass layer and spring layer, respectively. The PMN-0.3PT transducer had a 103 MHz center frequency with a −6 dB bandwidth of 52%, and a sign...

Surveillance and Genomics of Toxigenic Vibrio cholerae O1 From Fish, Phytoplankton and Water in Lake Victoria, Tanzania
This study reports the occurrence of multidrug resistant V. cholerae O1 in Lake Victoria that are genetically closely related to recent pandemic strains in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. The strains identified are also closely related to older pandemic strains recovered in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi and Tanzania up until 1993, suggesting a long-term persistence and wide spatial distribution of pandemic strains within the region with the lake serving as a reservoir. These environmental isolates likely emerged from previous cholera outbreaks and survived in the lake environment for decades through various relatio...

They ’re Healthy. They’re Sustainable. So Why Don’t Humans Eat More Bugs?
Sylvain Hugel is one of the world’s foremost experts on crickets of the Indian Ocean Islands. So when he received an email from a fellow entomologist in March 2017 asking for help identifying a species in Madagascar that could be farmed for humans to consume, he thought it was a joke. “I’m working to protect those insects, not eat them,” the French academic responded tartly. But the emails from Brian Fisher, an ant specialist at the California Academy of Sciences, in San Francisco, kept coming. Fisher had been doing fieldwork in Madagascar when he realized that the forests where both he and Hugel c...

A Novel lncRNA Regulates the Toll-Like Receptor Signaling Pathway and Related Immune Function by Stabilizing FOS mRNA as a Competitive Endogenous RNA
In conclusion, our study shows that the novel lncRNA- XLOC_098131 plays a key role in the molecular mechanism underlying the immune function mediated by DA. This study provides new insight into the molecular mechanisms through which DA affects the Toll-like receptor signaling pathway-related immune response and the mechanisms through which lncRNAs regulate mRNA expression. As direct target genes, miR-548s plays important roles in mediating the regulation of FOS by the lncRNA- XLOC_098131 to affect immunity. These data constitute high-quality resources for future genome and functional research. Ethics Statement The experi...

Serum metal levels in a population of Spanish pregnant women
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that trace elements in the analyzed cohorts are adequate for this stage of pregnancy. The variability in these elements is mainly linked to socio-demographic and anthropometric variables.PMID:34627659 | DOI:10.1016/j.gaceta.2021.07.006

Food, energy, and nutrient supply in Mexican households from 1984 to 2018
CONCLUSIONS: although UMP foods remain the main group in most Mexican households, their supply has decreased over the years, whereas the supply of ultra-processed foods has increased.PMID:34816724 | DOI:10.20960/nh.03686

Nutrition in the prevention and control of osteoporosis.
CONCLUSIONS: osteoporosis is an underdiagnosed pathology and of increasing prevalence. Due to its high morbidity and mortality, prevention is important and, from a nutritional point of view, it is convenient to bring the diet closer to the theoretical ideal. In general, increasing the consumption of dairy products, fish, vegetables and fruits, as well as reducing the consumption of salt, during childhood and throughout life, seems convenient for the bone improvement of most of the population. Geographical variation in the clinical presentation of endomyocardial fibrosis in India?
CONCLUSIONS: These differences may have been due to the better nutrition of the Alleppey patients due to a higher exposure to fish compared to the Trivandrum population. Better nutrition would protect against Magnesium deficiency and prevent the absorption of Cerium in the patients from Alleppey, compared to those from Trivandrum. PMID: 29455789 [PubMed - in process]

Naturopathic practitioners' approach to caring for people with cardiovascular disease risk factors: A cross-cultural cross-sectional study reporting the providers perspective
CONCLUSION: US and Australian NPs represent an aspect of primary care and disease prevention that warrants further research that evaluates the potential risks and benefits of NP care, and challenges and opportunities associated with NPs integration into the healthcare systems, for populations with CVD risk factors.PMID:34768132 | DOI:10.1016/j.ctcp.2021.101511
