Acute manic state with psychotic features in a teenager with autoimmune encephalitis: a case report
ConclusionThis case underlines the importance of collaboration between child and adolescent psychiatry and pediatrics, and gives pointers for timely diagnosis. Manic adolescents who do not respond to mood-stabilizing treatment should be subjected to further consultations and investigations. Psychiatrists and neurologists should develop an integrated approach to the management of brain disorders.

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 3763: Design and Micro-Fabrication of Focused High-Frequency Needle Transducers for Medical Imaging
In this study, we report an advanced fabrication technique to develop a miniature focused needle transducer. Two different types of high-frequency (100 MHz) transducers were fabricated using the lead magnesium niobate-lead titanate (PMN-0.3PT) and lithium niobate (LiNbO3) single crystals. In order to enhance the transducer’s performance, a unique mass–spring matching layer technique was adopted, in which gold and parylene play the roles of the mass layer and spring layer, respectively. The PMN-0.3PT transducer had a 103 MHz center frequency with a −6 dB bandwidth of 52%, and a sign...

Studies on candidate genes for lithium prophylaxis performed at the Poznan University of Medical Sciences
Psychiatr Pol. 2022 Oct 31;56(5):1003-1016. doi: 10.12740/PP/140889. Epub 2022 Oct 31.ABSTRACTLithium is a drug of choice as a mood-stabilizer for the maintenance treatment of bipolar disorder. The prophylactic efficacy of lithium can be determined by genetic factors, partially related to a predisposition to bipolar disorder. In the field of psychiatric genetics, the first decade of the 21st century was dominated by the "candidate gene" research. In this paper, the studies on candidate genes connected with lithium prophylaxis performed at the Poznań University of Medical Sciences in 2005-2018 are presented. During this ti...

Psychiatrists: the drug pushers
Is the current epidemic of depression and hyperactivity the result of disease-mongering by the psychiatric profession and big pharma? Does psychiatry have any credibility left at all?A psychiatrist who once "treated" me used to recite this rueful little mantra: "They say failed doctors become psychiatrists, and that failed psychiatrists specialise in drugs." By drugs this psychiatrist meant drugs of addiction – and his "treatment" of me consisted of prescribing Temgesic, a synthetic opiate, as a substitute for the heroin I was more strongly inclined to take. So, he undertook this role: actin...

Liothyronine for Depression: A Review and Guidance for Safety Monitoring
Conclusion: With appropriate baseline and follow-up safety monitoring, liothyronine augmentation can be a safe and effective treatment for unipolar depression. Larger studies of longer duration assessing liothyronine efficacy with serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors and multimodal antidepressants are needed. Introduction Major depressive disorder (MDD) has a 12-month prevalence of 6.7 percent and a lifetime prevalence of 16.9 percent.[1,2] Treatment-resistant depression is defined as lack of response after trials of two or more antidepressants with different mechanisms of action for sufficient duration.[3] Such an...

Brain Citrullination Patterns and T Cell Reactivity of Cerebrospinal Fluid-Derived CD4+ T Cells in Multiple Sclerosis
We report many of them for the first time. For the already described citrullinated proteins MBP, GFAP, and vimentin, we could identify additional citrullinated sites. The number of modified proteins in MS white matter was higher than control tissue. Citrullinated peptides are considered neoepitopes that may trigger autoreactivity. We used newly identified epitopes and previously reported immunodominant myelin peptides in their citrullinated and non-citrullinated form to address the recognition of CSF-infiltrating CD4+ T cells from 22 MS patients by measuring proliferation and IFN-γ secretion. We did not detect ...
