Cardiac rehabilitation in patients with diabetes
CONCLUSIONS: Therapeutic management of heart disease in diabetic patients is aimed at reducing cardiovascular risk, through pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. However, the weakest point of the treatment is the lack of adherence to the treatments. Physical Exercise is an essential element, together with hypoglycemic and nutritional treatment in Diabetes Mellitus (DM), due to its usefulness in the control of diabetes and prevention of cardiovascular complications.PMID:33687182 | DOI:10.23736/S0031-0808.21.04308-1

Who ’ s Afraid of Needles?
Discussion There are products that are valued highly because of their design and function are elegantly suited for their use. Books would be one example and the hypodermic needle is another. Medical hypodermic needles are used for accessing bodily spaces (e.g. vascular, peritoneal, subarachnoid, dermal, etc.), obtaining specimens (both solid tissue and liquid) and to deliver drugs, biologicals, fluids and other treatments to patients. Medical procedures involving some type of needle are the most common procedures taught to health care providers. A brief history of syringes and hypodermic needles can be found here. A variet...

The Assessment Of Value For Medical Devices: A Case Study On Injection Technique Education In Insulin Delivery
Education and product training are critical but overlooked variables in the value assessment of medical devices. By example, over 24 million insulin injections occur daily in Europe, with little knowledge on proper injection technique (IT).1 This case study illustrates the positive impact of insulin IT education on diabetes outcomes, drug consumption and healthcare costs.

Endocrine and metabolic effects of smoking cessation.
CONCLUSION: Further research may provide insight into post-cessation endocrine changes that may be caused by alterations to central and peripheral systems. Such research may increase the understanding of underlying biological mechanisms that lead to symptoms and clinical features of smoking cessation. PMID: 28925757 [PubMed]

Fetal biometry for guiding the medical management of women with gestational diabetes mellitus for improving maternal and perinatal health.
CONCLUSIONS: This review is based on evidence from three trials involving 524 women. The trials did not report some important outcomes of interest to this review, and the majority of our secondary outcomes were also unreported. The available evidence ranged from low- to very low-certainty, with downgrading decisions based on limitations in study design, imprecision and inconsistency. There is insufficient evidence to evaluate the use of fetal biometry (in addition to maternal blood glucose concentration values) to assist in guiding the medical management of GDM, on either maternal or perinatal health outcomes, or the associ...

Insulin resistance is an important risk factor for cognitive impairment in elderly patients with primary hypertension.
CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrates that poor education and increased BMI, WHR, and HOMA-IR are independent risk factors for cognitive impairment in elderly patients with hypertension. Insulin resistance plays an important role in the development of cognitive impairment in primary elderly hypertensive patients. PMID: 25510751 [PubMed - in process]
