Regenerative Potential of Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) for Curing Intrabony Periodontal Defects: A Systematic Review of Clinical Studies
The objectives are to critically analyze and appraise the currently available literature, focusing on the use of PRF in regenerating periodontal bone defects. An electronic search was conducted (PubMed/MEDLINE, Google Scholar, ISI-WOS). Various combinations of following keywords were used: ‘platelet-rich fibrin’, ‘intrabony’, ‘periodontal’, ‘bone defect’ and ‘guided tissue regeneration’. A secondary search was conducted by analyzing the reference lists of the articles obtained in initial search. The final search resulted in 13 randomized controlled trials being inc luded. In majority of studies, PRF res...

Effect of hypoglycemic agents on survival outcomes of lung cancer patients with diabetes mellitus: A meta-analysis
Conclusions:This meta-analysis demonstrated that metformin exposure might improve survival outcomes in lung cancer patients with diabetes. Background: To assess the association between hypoglycemic agents and prognosis of lung cancer patients with diabetes. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was performed in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library until May 2017. The search yielded 2593 unique citations, of which 18 articles met inclusion criteria. The hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated by a fixed-effects or random-effects model. Results: The pooled HRs...

Metformin and second- or third-generation sulphonylurea combination therapy for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
CONCLUSIONS: There is inconclusive evidence whether M+S combination therapy compared with metformin plus another glucose-lowering intervention results in benefit or harm for most patient-important outcomes (mortality, SAEs, macrovascular and microvascular complications) with the exception of hypoglycaemia (more harm for M+S combination). No RCT reported on health-related quality of life. PMID: 30998259 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Hematological Side Effects of Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors: The Example of Immune-Related Thrombocytopenia
Conclusion Hem-irAEs are potentially life-threatening complications of ICIs that require a high level of clinical suspicion. Ir-TCP is amongst the most frequently reported hem-irAEs. Due to its low incidence and the lack of specific diagnostic criteria, ir-TCP may be underdiagnosed and possibly underreported. The diagnosis is based on exclusion of other causes of TCP together with clinical features that suggest an immune event such as the refractoriness to platelet transfusions and response to corticosteroids. During clinical development, a systematic analysis of ir-TCP cases at clinical study and program level is of outm...

Fluoxetine for adults who are overweight or obese.
CONCLUSIONS: Low-certainty evidence suggests that off-label fluoxetine may decrease weight compared with placebo. However, low-certainty evidence suggests an increase in the risk for dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, insomnia and nausea following fluoxetine treatment. Metformin monotherapy for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
CONCLUSIONS: There is no clear evidence whether metformin monotherapy compared with no intervention, behaviour changing interventions or other glucose-lowering drugs influences patient-important outcomes. PMID: 32501595 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The effect of metformin on aminotransferase levels, metabolic parameters and body mass index in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease patients: a meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Compared to the controls, metformin can effectively reduce the serum fasting glucose and insulin levels and the HOMA-IR index in NAFLD patients at the 6-month follow-up and ALT and the HOMA-IR index at the 12-month follow-up.PMID:33719959 | DOI:10.2174/1381612827666210315144821
