Active Symptom-Based Surveillance of Adverse Events Following Immunization among Individuals Vaccinated with ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 Coronavirus Vaccine in a Tertiary Hospital of Kerala
CONCLUSION: All the adverse reactions were of a minor type and non-serious. Side effects were less common in older adults (>60 years). Reactions to the second dose were lesser in intensity and frequency. Younger age, history of allergy, and comorbidities, particularly asthma were found to be major predictors for the development of adverse events and require more watchful vaccine administration.PMID:35135453 | DOI:10.2174/1574886317666220207120649

Expression Levels of Glutathione S-Transferase and Cytochrome P450 Isoenzymes in Nasal Polyp Tissue
AbstractNasal polyps are benign sinonasal masses composed of eosinophils and extracellular edema. Pathogenesis of the polyp formation is unclear but several studies strongly suggest a correlation with infection, inflammation and allergy conditions. Our aim is to investigate the potential link between allergy and nasal polyp in tissue level. Nasal polyp group included 60 patients whose diagnosis was confirmed with biopsy and the control group included 38 healthy patients. Tissue sample of the control group was taken from inferior turbinate mucosa under local anesthesia and nasal polyp tissue was collected from functional en...

AI Cough-Monitoring Can Change the Way We Diagnose Disease
How many times do you cough a day? Do you cough more when you’re indoors or outside? Or more often after you eat? Or at night? Chances are, your cough memory might not be that accurate. But all of that information about your coughing patterns could be an untapped resource to better understand your health. Coughs may be benign ways to clear a little extra phlegm, or they could be early signs of more serious conditions such as asthma, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), or even lung cancer. “In the era of precision health, it’s ironic that such a problematic symptom is simply unmeasured,” says Pet...

Chironomid midges as allergens: evidence from two species from West Bengal, Kolkata, India.
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that the chironomid midges Chironomus circumdatus and Polypedilum nubifer can elicit sensitization in humans. A potential risk for allergic reactions by susceptible individuals exists due to these chironomid species, owing to their abundance and chances of contact with human beings. Further studies may be initiated to characterize the nature of the allergens and to assess their clinical relevance. PMID: 25109727 [PubMed - in process]

A Comparative Study of Skin Prick Test versus Serum-Specific IgE Measurement in Indian Patients with Bronchial Asthma and Allergic Rhinitis.
CONCLUSIONS: The SSIgE has higher sensitivity and PPV, but lacks specificity. Higher sensitivity with low specificity leads to increased false positive diagnosis of allergic disease. Unlike allergenic pollens, however, insect antigen extracts from different regions seem to give comparable results, and can thus, reliably be used in the evaluation of allergy. Credit: UNDPBy Thalif DeenUNITED NATIONS, Jul 31 2017 (IPS)The United States is lagging far behind its Western allies – and perhaps most of the key developing countries – in refusing to act decisively to end a longstanding health and environmental hazard: the use of mercury in dentistry.
