Crucial role of carotid ultrasound for the rapid diagnosis of hyperacute aortic dissection complicated by cerebral infarction: A case report and literature review.
Abstract Aortic dissection is a life-threatening rare condition that may virtually present by any organ system dysfunction, the nervous system included. Acute cerebral infarction among multiple other neurological and non-neurological presentations is part of this acute aortic syndrome. Rapid and correct diagnosis is of extreme importance keeping in mind the possibility of thrombolytic treatment if a patient with a suspected ischemic stroke arrives to the Emergency Department within a 4.5-h window after symptom onset. Systemic intravenous thrombolysis in the case of an acute brain infarction due to aortic dissectio...

The Role of Neurosonology in the Diagnosis and Management of Patients with Carotid Artery Disease: A Review
ABSTRACT Carotid artery disease (CAD) is a common cause of ischemic stroke with high rates of recurrence. Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) or carotid artery stenting (CAS) are highly recommended for the secondary prevention of symptomatic CAD during the first 14 days following the index event of transient ischemic attack or minor stroke. CEA or CAS may also be offered in selected cases with severe asymptomatic stenosis. Herein, we review the utility of neurosonology in the diagnosis and pre‐/peri‐interventional assessment of CAD patients who undergo carotid revascularization procedures. Carotid ultrasound may provide inval...

Impact of the Use of Intravascular Imaging on Patients Who Underwent Orbital Atherectomy.
CONCLUSION: Orbital atherectomy guided by intravascular imaging is feasible and safe. A large prospective randomized trial is needed to determine the clinical benefit of IVUS/OCT during PCI with orbital atherectomy. PMID: 29378972 [PubMed - in process]

Catheter-directed thrombolysis versus suction thrombectomy in the management of acute pulmonary embolism
ConclusionsCDT seems to have similar outcomes with ST in the management of acute PE, although larger, more homogenous data are needed. In our experience, ST should be viewed as a complementary alternative for patients with contraindication for thrombolytics or severely compromised hemodynamic profile and can yield good outcomes in an otherwise highly morbid population.

Inflammation and Endothelial Function Relevant Genetic Polymorphisms and Carotid Plaque in Chinese Population.
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of carotid plaque was very high in the high-risk stroke population in southwestern China. Variants in genes involved in the endothelial function and inflammation were associated with the carotid plaque. The high-risk interactive genotype among rs7923349, rs1991013, rs1609682, and rs8081248 was independently associated with a higher risk of vulnerable plaque. High Prevalence of Deep Venous Thrombosis in Non-Severe COVID-19 Patients Hospitalized for a Neurovascular Disease
Conclusion: Despite thromboprophylaxis, systematic bedside DUS showed a high prevalence (38.5%) of asymptomatic DVT in non-severe COVID-19 patients suffering from a neurovascular disease. In the absence of a reliable marker of DVT, we suggest that this non-invasive investigation could be an interesting tool to monitor peripheral venous thrombotic complications in such patients.Cerebrovasc Dis Extra 2020;10:174 –180

Huge Free-Floating Thrombus in the Internal Carotid Artery Under Duplex Ultrasound Surveillance: A Case Report
Conclusions: Evaluation of the intracranial vessel in the emergency is not enough and early carotid duplex ultrasound can help find of the FFT in time, which help to choose the early intervene by neurosurgeon. Early antithrombotic treatment can be a safe treatment option for reducing huge thrombus based on the nature of thrombus formation. Computed tomography angiography and high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging to certify the character of the plaque are recommended for plaque evaluation.

Plasma Protein Profile of Carotid Artery Atherosclerosis and Atherosclerotic Outcomes: Meta-Analyses and Mendelian Randomization Analyses
CONCLUSIONS: The present meta-analysis discovered several proteins related to carotid atherosclerosis that partly differed in their association with IMT-CCA, plaque, and incident atherosclerotic disease. Mendelian randomization analysis for the top finding, MMP-12, suggests that the increased levels of MMP-12 could be a consequence of atherosclerotic burden rather than the opposite chain of events.PMID:33657885 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.120.315597
