Increased risk of ischaemic stroke among patients with multiple sclerosis
ConclusionsMultiple sclerosis is declared to be associated with an increased risk in developing stroke, which requires closer attention to this group of patients for stroke prevention, especially in the younger population.

Photoplythesmographic Signal to Screen Sleep-Disordered Breathing in Acute Stroke Patients: Feasibility of a Prospective Clinical Pathway (P1.181)
Conclusions: Screening hospitalized patients admitted for acute stroke with a positive questionnaire and inpatient plythesmography may identify a cohort of patients with high prevalence SDB. Our screening strategy hypothesizes that inpatient ODI can be a potentially cost-effective method for early recognition of SDB in acute stroke patients.Disclosure: Dr. Lim-Hing has nothing to disclose. Refining Stroke Prediction in Atrial  Fibrillation Patients by Addition of African-American Ethnicity to CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc Score
Conclusions In patients> 65 years of age with newly diagnosed AF, the addition of ethnicity to CHA2DS2-VASc score  significantly improved stroke prediction.

A comparison of risk factors and prognosis between intra and extracranial acute atherosclerotic stroke in the Turkish population: a prospective study.
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of risk factors differs between ICAS and ECAS, and their influence differs for stroke severity and prognosis. PMID: 27477568 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effect of Variation in Published Stroke Rates on the Net Clinical Benefit of Anticoagulation for Atrial Fibrillation.
Conclusion: Variation in published AF stroke rates for patients not receiving anticoagulant therapy results in multifold variation in the net clinical benefit of anticoagulation. Guidelines should better reflect the uncertainty in current thresholds of stroke risk score for recommending anticoagulation. Primary Funding Source: None. Differences between Atrial Fibrillation Detected before and after Stroke and TIA: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: We found significant differences in the prevalence of vascular comorbidities, structural heart disease, and stroke recurrence rates between AFDAS and KAF, suggesting that they constitute different clinical entities within the AF spectrum. Modification of Outcomes With Aspirin or Apixaban in Relation to Female and Male Sex in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation: A Secondary Analysis of the AVERROES Study Brief Reports
Conclusions— Female patients with atrial fibrillation had higher ischemic stroke rates compared with male patients, but the relative effects of apixaban compared with aspirin on both ischemic stroke and bleeding were similar in men and women.

Oral Anticoagulation, Aspirin, or No Therapy in Patients With Nonvalvular AF With 0 or 1 Stroke Risk Factor Based on the CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc Score
ConclusionsLow-risk patients (CHA2DS2-VASc = 0 [male], 1 [female]) have a truly low risk for stroke and bleeding. With 1 additional stroke risk factor (CHA2DS2-VASc = 1 [male], = 2 [female]), there was a significant increase in event rates (particularly mortality) if nonanticoagulated.

Stroke with atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter: a descriptive population-based study from the Brest stroke registry
The objective of the present prospective study, using data from 2008, was to evaluate the prevalence of AA (atrial fibrillation/flutter) in patients with stroke and the impact of implementing AF guidelines. Methods: The prevalence of AA was studied in patients diagnosed with stroke from January 1 to December 31, 2008 in the population-based Stroke Registry of Brest, France (total population, 363,760 according to the 2008 census, with 295,553 aged 15 years or older). Guidelines implementation was assessed in terms of antithrombotic therapy (VKA, antiplatelet agent, none), and the CHADS2 (Congestive heart failure, Hypertens...

Effect of prestroke antiplatelets use on first‐ever ischaemic stroke severity and early outcome
ConclusionsOur findings provide further evidence supporting modest benefit of AP therapy on the course and outcome of first‐ever ischaemic stroke. Further large studies are needed to confirm this effect.

P-008 Evaluating Racial/Ethnic Disparity in Endovascular Thrombectomy Outcome for Acute Stroke Patients: 4,763 patients using Premier data 2011 to 2015
ConclusionsThere were no differences in hospital outcome among races/ethnicities in endovascular thrombectomy outcomes for acute stroke patients in the Premier data. Racial/ethnic disparities play role for patients’ selection not for patients’ outcome in endovascular thrombectomy.DisclosuresS. Park: None. M. Pilot: None. M. Intermediate-term rates of stroke following cardiac procedures: the Nationwide Readmissions Database (P4.305)
Conclusions:Using a large, nationally representative database of inpatient admissions from 2013, we found that 90-day stroke rates are higher after cardiac procedures compared to non-cardiac procedures and non-surgical admissions. However, these rates are likely lower than previously reported.Disclosure: Dr. Stein has nothing to disclose. Dr. Thaler has nothing to disclose. Dr. Liang has nothing to disclose. Predicting the Risk of Ischemic Stroke among Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis Using a Simplified RA-CHADSV Score Based on the CHA2DS2-VASc Score.
CONCLUSIONS: A simplified RA-CHADSV score, with comparable efficiency as the CHA2DS2-VASc score, but easier to use clinically was developed for predicting the risk of ischemic stroke among non-AF RA patients. PMID: 32059458 [PubMed - in process]
