Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Diseases in Morocco: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: Based on these alarming incidences, investment in scientific research and epidemiological studies should be increased to determine the needs of the local population. The available evidence shows that the risk of cardiovascular disease and the associated mortality is very high in Morocco and will rise in the next years prospectively, which calls for urgent multi-sectorial approaches and treatment strategies.PMID:34852896 | DOI:10.1900/RDS.2021.17.57

Renalase gene Glu37Asp polymorphism affects susceptibility to diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus
ConclusionsThis is the first study to investigate RNLS gene polymorphism in microvascular complications of T2DM. The results suggest that RNLS rs2296545 SNP might be considered a risk factor for diabetic retinopathy in T2DM patients. This can provide new insight into the role of renalase gene in the pathophysiology of microvascular complications of diabetes.

Positive Association Between Plasma Aldosterone Concentration and White Matter Lesions in Patients With Hypertension
ConclusionHigher PAC, especially in PAC >17.26 ng/dl, increased the risk of WMLs. PAC was positively associated with white matter lesion load independent of SBP or DBP.

DNA methylation level of the gene encoding thioredoxin-interacting protein in peripheral blood cells is associated with metabolic syndrome in the Japanese general population
Endocr J. 2021 Oct 14. doi: 10.1507/endocrj.EJ21-0339. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetabolic syndrome (MetS) is cluster of metabolic diseases, including abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia, high blood pressure, and dyslipidemia, that directly escalate the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) is a binding protein for thioredoxin, a molecule that is a key inhibitor of cellular oxidation, and thus regulates the cellular redox state. Epigenetic alteration of the TXNIP-encoding locus has been associated with components of MetS. In the present study, we sought to determine wh...

Cushing ’s Disease: Assessment of Early Cardiovascular Hemodynamic Dysfunction With Impedance Cardiography
ConclusionsCushing’s disease is associated with significantly greater vasoconstriction and left ventricular systolic dysfunction. An individual assessment with impedance cardiography may be useful in Cushing’s disease patients in order to identify subclinical cardiovascular complications of chronic hypercortisolemia as potential therapeutic targets.

Assessing the linear and non-linear association of HbA1c with cardiovascular disease: a Mendelian randomisation study
Conclusions/interpretationThe study suggests a detrimental effect of HbA1c on coronary artery disease in both men and women, and the effect is via a glycaemic characteristic. The shape of the genetic association of HbA1c with these cardiovascular outcomes, in particular coronary artery disease, is likely to be linear.Graphical abstract

Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Acute Ischemic Stroke in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes: A Single-Center, Retrospective Study in Southern China
CONCLUSIONS: Type 2 DM is associated with AIS and its risk factors, such as dyslipidemia and hypertension. Patients in the AIS-DM group had less LAA and smaller arterial occlusions, and DM could exacerbate the short-term clinical outcomes in AIS patients.PMID:34234826 | PMC:PMC8216820 | DOI:10.1155/2021/5517228
