Risk Factor Stratification for Intracranial Stenosis in Taiwanese Patients With Cervicocerebral Stenosis Stroke
Conclusions CEIS was associated with higher odds of ischemic stroke compared with isolated ICS and isolated ECS. Smoking and diabetes mellitus, major determinants of CEIS and isolated ICS, should be targeted in therapeutic strategies to reduce the risk of ischemic stroke.

Susceptibility vessel sign in subacute stroke patients with large vessel occlusion
CONCLUSION: In subacute stroke patients, the occurrence rate of SVS sign in CE group was lower than that of LAA group. The significance of SVS sign in the differentiation of stroke subtype needs further validation.PMID:34916694

Abstract 241: Design and Clinical Outcomes of INSTOR (Interventional Stroke Therapy Outcomes Registry) Poster Session II
Conclusions: INSTOR presents instant online graphical and numerical results including "door to CT", "door to IV tPA", "time for return of laboratory results" and "time to angiography", etc. Process trends are presented with graphed monthly median data points overlain by a logistic regression trend line. The computerized multisite database also has the capability of automatically sending text massage or email reminders to designated recipients for follow-up events such as discharge information or 90-day mRS. INSTOR instantly performs complex multifactorial analyses of numerous measures of clinical outcomes for both IV tPA a...

Blood Pressure Variability during Angiography in Patients with Ischemic Stroke and Intracranial Artery Stenosis.
Authors: Pan H, Zhao R, Liu FD, Wu YL, Li GF, Shi YH, Liu YS, Zhao Y, Zhuang MT, Hou TY, Zhang QT, Yao Q, Qiao Y, Huang RJ, Chen LN, Zhu YM, Shu L, Su JJ, Fang J, Tang XM, Wang S, Cui GH, Wang DZ, Liu JR Abstract Our aim was to investigate factors predicting blood pressure (BP) variability during diagnostic cerebral angiography and associations between BP variability and clinical outcomes in patients with acute and subacute ischemic stroke and intracranial artery stenosis. 114 patients with ischemic stroke and intracranial artery stenosis (stenosis rate >50%) were recruited. Patients who underwent cerebral angio...

Glucose-6-phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency and Intracranial Atherosclerosis Stenosis in Stroke Patients
CONCLUSION: Stroke patients with G6PD deficiency have a higher prevalence and ICAS burden than those with normal G6PD, particularly those who are male, older, and hypertensive.PMID:35608963 | DOI:10.1111/ene.15418

Characteristics of Symptomatic Basilar Artery Stenosis Using High-Resolution Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Ischemic Stroke Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: The etiology of stenosis or occlusion was unclear until the development of HR-MRI. With HR-MRI, stroke etiology is better understood, and factors affecting each etiology can be identified. Further studies that clarify the etiology of posterior circulation stroke are required. Three Dimensional-Arterial Spin Labeling Evaluation of Improved Cerebral Perfusion After Limb Remote Ischemic Preconditioning in a Rat Model of Focal Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSION: Three dimensional (3D) ASL can be used to evaluate LRP to improve stroke perfusion, and its protective effect may be closely related to LRP-induced vascular regeneration.PMID:35847828 | PMC:PMC9280338 | DOI:10.3389/fnana.2022.893953

Distribution of ischemic infarction and stenosis of intra- and extracranial arteries in young Chinese patients with ischemic stroke
This study was conducted to understand the risk factors and characteristics of cerebral infarction and stenosis of vessels in young Chinese patients with ischemic stroke. Methods: This was a retrospective study, from January 2007 to July 2012, of 123 patients ≤50 years diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke. Patient characteristics were compared according to sex (98 males and 25 females) and age group (51 patients were ≤45 years and 72 patients were 46–50 years). Characteristics of acute ischemic infarction were studied by diffusion weighted imaging. Stenosis of intra- and extracranial arteries was diagnosed by duple...

Dual potential embolic source detected in left atrium during hyperacute stroke
Clinical introduction A woman in her late 60s with a medical history of hypertension presented to the emergency department with symptoms of a stroke which began 40 min prior. Brain MRI was performed (figure 1A). Hyperacute CT angiography of the head and neck did not find any atherosclerosis. ECG is shown (figure 1B), and subsequent transthoracic echocardiography showed left atrium enlargement and left-to-right flow at the region of the fossa ovalis (figure 1C). Figure 1Brain MRI of diffusion-weighted image sequence (A), ECG (B), and transthoracic echocardiogram (C). Question Which of the following is the most likely mechan...

Simultaneous onset of myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke in a patient with atrial fibrillation: Multiple territory injury revealed on angiography and magnetic resonance
An 84-year-old man with a history of hypertension and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) who received no anticoagulant drugs experienced acute chest pain and transient loss of consciousness. He was transferred to our emergency room. His initial electrocardiogram showed sinus rhythm with ST-segment elevation in the I, aVL, and V1–V6 leads. His blood pressure was 158/92mmHg and his pulse was regular at 70beats per minute. A chest radiograph showed increased heart size and pulmonary vascular congestion. His troponin T level was elevated (more than 0.1ng/mL). He was diagnosed with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (MI) and...

Antithrombotic therapy for atrial fibrillation and coronary artery disease in older patients
Conclusions Among older patients with AF and CAD, overall warfarin use was low. Patients ≥80 years old at highest stroke risk received warfarin in similar proportions to the overall cohort. Further investigation into optimizing antithrombotic strategies in this population is warranted.

Risk stratification in symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic disease with conventional vascular risk factors and cerebral haemodynamics
CONCLUSIONS: The D2H2A nomogram, incorporating conventional vascular risk factors and the haemodynamic significance of sICAS as assessed in CFD models, could be a useful tool to stratify sICAS patients for the risk of recurrent stroke under contemporarily optimal medical treatment.PMID:36104090 | DOI:10.1136/svn-2022-001606

Left atrial volume and function in patients with cardiac syndrome X assessed by real time three ‐dimensional echocardiography
ConclusionThe main finding of this study was that CSX patients had altered LA booster pump, reservoir, and conduit functions. This finding may have clinical implications for early detection of abnormal LA dynamics in CSX patients.
