Comparison Of Large Vessel Stroke Patient Outcomes Before And After Initiation Of On-Site Endovascular Stroke Treatment Services (P2.015)
Discussion: For every 30 minutes until reperfusion, the probability of good recovery after large vessel stroke is decreased by about 10%. Transfer delays impede the benefit of endovascular recanalization. In the absence of strategic air transportation systems, rapid deployment of an endovascular team decreases time to recanalization and improves patient outcomes in anterior large vessel stroke.Disclosure: Dr. Shwe has nothing to disclose. The Clinical Efficacy of Clopidogrel Bisulfate Tablets Combined with Olmesartan Medoxomil for Ischemic Stroke with Hypertension and the Effect of Angiotensin II Type 1 Receptor Level on Prognosis
CONCLUSION: Clopidogrel bisulfate tablets combined with olmesartan medoxomil has prominent clinical effects in the treatment of ischemic stroke patients with hypertension, evidently improving the prognosis. In addition, the level of AT1R may be a vital factor affecting the prognosis.PMID:34745325 | PMC:PMC8566065 | DOI:10.1155/2021/4487393

Comment Blood pressure in acute stroke
Although great advances have been made in stroke medicine in the past two decades, some questions about treatment in the acute phase of stroke remain. One such question is how to manage blood pressure? Blood pressure is often increased in acute ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke, and findings from epidemiological studies suggest that high blood pressure in the acute phase is associated with poor outcome. The results of three large randomised clinical trials on blood pressure lowering in acute stroke—the Chinese Antihypertensive Trial in Acute Ischaemic Stroke, the Intensive Blood Pressure Reduction in Acute Cerebral Haemo...

Long-term Prognosis of Patients Presenting First-ever Vestibular Symptoms in a Community-based Study
Conclusions: First-ever-in-lifetime VSs are common in patients with FNS and may represent a good opportunity for preventing a serious vascular event, particularly in patients with vascular comorbidity (silent infarctions and VRFs).

Recognition of posterior circulation stroke
ConclusionsDespite being of typical age for multiple cardiovascular conditions the PC‐ICH patients less often have a previous history of AF or dyslipidemia than IS patients do. The vomiting PC‐ICH patient with hypertensive BP values often has headache and a red flag for hemorrhage is warfarin treatment.

Acute ischemic stroke management in Lebanon: obstacles and solutions.
This study assesses the current practices of physicians in Lebanon routinely involved in ischemic stroke (IS) management. We conducted a prospective observational study of patients hospitalized at 8 different Lebanese hospitals in the period August 1, 2015 to July 31, 2016, with a diagnosis of acute stroke. Baseline characteristics and data on diagnostic studies, as well as treatments received during hospitalization and at discharge, were collected and analyzed. Two hundred and three strokes/transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) were recorded but only 173 patients (85%) with ischemic events were included in the study. The pati...

Acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy. A rare cause of ischaemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS. APMPPE is an infrequent condition that generally has a good prognosis. In some cases, however, complications may arise owing to involvement of the central nervous system, and ischaemic stroke secondary to vasculitis is the most severe complication. In young patients with stroke who present visual symptoms and chorioretinital lesions, APMPPE must be considered in the aetiological diagnosis. PMID: 23703059 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effects of candesartan in acute stroke on activities of daily living and level of care at 6 months
Conclusion: Blood pressure-lowering treatment with candesartan had no beneficial effect on activities of daily living and level of care at 6 months. This result is compatible with the results of the main analysis of the modified Rankin scale, and supports the conclusion that there is no indication for routine blood pressure treatment with candesartan in the acute phase of stroke.

Risk factors for perioperative ischemic stroke in cardiac surgery
Conclusion:Risk factors for ischemic stroke were carotid stenosis of 70% or more, diabetes on insulin and peripheral arteriopathy.

Unusual Intersection: Elucidating the Role of Erdheim Chester Disease in Stroke (P4.366)
Conclusion:A unifying diagnosis of ECD was identified for this gentleman presenting with a stroke in the setting of critical ICA stenosis. Pathology from his CEA suggests that while ECD involves multisystem inflammation, it did not appear to play a direct role in his stroke.Disclosure: Dr. Sheikhi has nothing to disclose.

Risks of atrial fibrillation and death at discharge after thrombolysis in stroke patients: Northumbrian Sentinel Stroke Audit, 2013–2015
ConclusionFor future research, clinical outcomes in addition to atrial fibrillation and quality of life both at discharge and 6 months after thrombolysis treatment should be included for examination as well. For clinical practice, giving thrombolysis treatment in hospitals might need to be reconsidered if clinical outcomes were actually worse than not.

Blood test identifies risk of disease linked to stroke and dementia
A UCLA-led study has found that levels of six proteins in the blood can be used to gauge a person ’s risk for cerebral small vessel disease, or CSVD, a brain disease that affects an estimated 11 million older adults in the U.S. CSVD can lead to dementia and stroke, but currently it can only be diagnosed with an MRI scan of the brain.“The hope is that this will spawn a novel diagnostic test that clinicians can start to use as a quantitative measure of brain health in people who are at risk of developing cerebral small vessel disease,” said Dr. Jason Hinman, a UCLA assistant professor of neurology and lead author of t...

NeuroAid II (MLC901) in Haemorrhagic Stroke
Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability. NeuroAid (MLC601), which originates from Traditional Chinese Medicine, comprises herbal and animal components, and has been shown to improve the functional status of patients after ischaemic stroke. The use of NeuroAid II (MLC901), which comprises only the herbal components of MLC601, in haemorrhagic stroke has not been previously reported. Our patient is a 63-year-old male with a significant stroke risk factor of hypertension. He developed visual field defect, aphasia, unilateral weakness, and hemisensory loss. CT scan showed a left thalamic haemorrhage. In addition to an...
