Plasma proteoglycan prolargin in diagnosis and differentiation of pulmonary arterial hypertension
ConclusionsPlasma prolargin levels differentiate PAH patients from controls and the other investigated dyspnoea groups including HF. Its potential in PAH differentiation may be enhanced by inclusion in a multi ‐marker panel. Larger studies are needed to evaluate its discriminative ability of PAH in relation to other dyspnoea aetiologies and its potential role in PAH risk stratification and pathobiology.

Rural-urban disparities in baseline health factors and procedure outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: Our study identified rural-urban differences in baseline factors and procedural outcomes in patients presenting to a tertiary care center for cardiac procedures. Providers should anticipate that health disparities may be associated with more intervention and worse outcomes in their rural patients. Being aware of such differences may also help policy makers in directing health care funding to lower gaps in health care and access ultimately leading to better health outcomes.PMID:35109969 | DOI:10.1016/j.jnma.2022.01.001

Elevated plasma WIF ‐1 levels are associated with worse prognosis in heart failure with pulmonary hypertension
ConclusionsThe present study demonstrated that LHF-PH patients have higher plasma WIF-1 levels than healthy controls, suggesting that plasma WIF-1 may be a potential future prognostic biomarker in LHF-PH. Its prognostic capability could be further refined by including it in a multi-marker panel. Further studies are needed to establish the potential role of WIF-1 in LHF-PH pathophysiology in larger cohorts to determine its clinical applicability.

Acute beat blockade improves right ventricular diastolic filling in pulmonary arterial hypertension: a rodent CMR and clinical human pressure-volume study
Conclusions: Esmolol improves RV diastolic filling in PAH at rest and during low-grade exercise, preserving SV and CO, with energetically favourable effects on contractile efficiency.

A Clinical Phenotype of Adverse Response to Biventricular Pacing: A Case Series
ConclusionsA phenotype of adverse response to biventricular pacing is characterized by relatively narrow QRS duration, RV dysfunction, and pulmonary hypertension. Clinical decline is rapid and associated with the development of RBBB‐type morphology, worsening of pulmonary hemodynamics, and RV dysfunction with biventricular pacing.

Systemic Hypertension in Low Gradient Severe Aortic Stenosis with Preserved Ejection Fraction.
CONCLUSIONS: Systemic hypertension in LG severe AS with preserved EF is associated with elevated LV filling pressures and pulmonary hypertension. Treatment of hypertension with vasodilator therapy results in a lowering of the total LV afterload, with a decrease in LV filling pressures and pulmonary artery pressures. These findings have important implications for the management of patients with LG severe AS with preserved EF and hypertension. PMID: 23956211 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Pulsatile haemodynamic parameters are predictors of survival in paediatric pulmonary arterial hypertension
Conclusions: The parameters of both the pulsatile and static pulmonary circulations are strong independent predictors for transplant-free survival, and therefore can be of complementary value in assessing disease severity, predicting survival and guiding treatment in paediatric PAH.

"Cardiovascular diseases should be higher on the political agenda" said Tonio Borg, the EU commissioner for health.
Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in the EU, but it is not yet given enough importance on the political agenda, according to Tonio Borg, who has scheduled an EU summit on chronic diseases at the beginning of next year.He spoke at the launch of the Cardiovascular Health Week, an initiative by the MEP Heart Group. Prognostic relevance of pulmonary arterial compliance in patients with chronic heart failure.
CONCLUSIONS Pulmonary arterial compliance is a strong prognostic indicator in CHF patients with sLVD; most importantly, its prognostic role is retained in patients with normal pulmonary vascular resistance. PMID: 24356904 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Coarctation of the aorta: nonsurgical treatment using stent implantation.
CONCLUSION: This is the first reported series in Singapore on the nonsurgical treatment of CoAs in adult patients using stents during interventional cardiac catheterisation. This less invasive procedure may lead to a new paradigm shift with regard to the treatment of CoA. PMID: 25017404 [PubMed - in process]
