IJERPH, Vol. 15, Pages 927: In Hospital Stroke Mortality: Rates and Determinants in Southwestern Saudi Arabia
Conclusions: In Southwestern Saudi Arabia, the in-hospital stroke mortality rate is higher in men and increases with aging. The prognosis of acute stroke could be improved by smoking cessation, better control of hypertension and prevention of in hospital complication particularly pulmonary embolism.

Therapeutic Dilemma of Wake-up Stroke: Clinical and Brain Imaging Characteristics and Reperfusion as a Treatment Option
Conclusions: Only minor dissimilarities between clinical and radiologic features of WUS and clear-onset stroke were found. Circadian patterns of stroke onset were observed in both groups. Stroke was more likely to occur during waking than during sleep, and a diurnal pattern of common occurrence during the morning was documented. Recognition of the acceptable timeframe for acute reperfusion therapy in unwitnessed strokes is crucial so that thrombolytic treatment can be started for these patients.PMID:36441986 | DOI:10.4088/PCC.21m03216

Trends in one-year mortality for stroke in a tertiary academic center in Saudi Arabia: a 5-year retrospective analysis
CONCLUSION: We observed no decline in stroke mortality in our center over the 5-year span. The establishment of stroke systems of care, use of thrombolytic agents, and opening of a stroke unit should play an important role in a decline in stroke mortality.  LIMITATIONS: Retrospective single center study. Mortality data were available only for patients who died in our hospital.

Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 1140: The Risk Factors for Acute Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke) in Patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2)
This study investigates the risk factors, comorbidities, and outcomes in patients with SARS-VoV-2 infection and acute ischemic stroke compared to patients without these conditions. The present retrospective study was conducted in the King Abdullah International Medical Research Centre (KAIMRC), Ministry of National Guard, Health Affairs, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during the period from April 2020 to February 2022. This study investigates the risk variables among the individuals who were diagnosed with either SARS-CoV-2 with stroke or patients with stroke alone. A total of 42,688 COVID-19 patients were registered, 187 cases of ...

Association of Genetic and Allelic Variants of Von Willebrand Factor (VWF), Glutathione S-Transferase and Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha with Ischemic Stroke Susceptibility and Progression in the Saudi Population
Life (Basel). 2023 May 17;13(5):1200. doi: 10.3390/life13051200.ABSTRACTStroke is a key cerebrovascular disease and important cause of death and disability worldwide, including in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). It has a large economic burden and serious socioeconomic impacts on patients, their families and the community. The incidence of ischemic stroke is probably increased by the interaction of GSTT1 and GSTM1 null genotypes with high blood pressure, diabetes and cigarette smoking. The roles of VWF, GSTs and TNF-alpha gene variations in the induction of stroke are still uncertain and require further examination. In t...

Risk factors and subtypes of ischemic stroke in young patients: an observational study from a teaching hospital in Saudi Arabia.
Authors: Shahid R Abstract Young adults are a key part of any society and the psychosocial and economic burden of any chronic or devastating disease in this particular group has significant consequences and impacts negatively on the development of the society as a whole. Although stroke in this age group is relatively rare, its consequences, in terms of lifelong dependence and disability, are substantial. Therefore, it is important to address this issue. In this retrospective epidemiological study, we analyzed the medical records of young patients (aged 18- 45 years) with a diagnosis of stroke during the study peri...

Identifying treatment related problems and associated factors among hospitalized post-stroke patients through medication management review: a multi-center study
ConclusionLack of drug efficacy, inappropriate drug adherence and patient knowledge were the major TRPs identified via delivering the MMR service to post-stroke patients. The identified TRPs highlights the importance of the MMR service, and supports planning future strategies aimed at decreasing the incidence of strokes.

Quality of anticoagulation control among patients with atrial fibrillation: An experience of a tertiary care center in Saudi Arabia
Conclusion Quality of anticoagulation in patients with AF receiving medical care in a tertiary care hospital was suboptimal, with nearly 40% of the time spent outside the therapeutic range. Methods to improve anticoagulation control among patients with AF should be implemented.
