Polymorphisms in CYP450 Genes and the Therapeutic Effect of Atorvastatin on Ischemic Stroke: A Retrospective Cohort Study in Chinese Population.
Abstract PURPOSE: Ischemic stroke (IS) is one of the most common neurologic diseases and is the main cause of death and disability in the Chinese population. This retrospective cohort study was performed to elucidate the relationship between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in cytochrome P450 genes and the therapeutic effect of atorvastatin. METHODS: A total of 192 cases of IS were enrolled in the study. All patients were treated with atorvastatin, and their lipid levels and proportions were measured. Six SNPs in 4 cytochrome P450 genes (CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP3A4, and CYP4F2) related to drug metabolism we...

Value of electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy as a predictor of poor blood pressure control: Evidence from the China stroke primary prevention trial
Recent studies have shown that hypertension is poorly controlled in many populations worldwide. Electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy is a common manifestation of preclinical cardiovascular disease that strongly predicts cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality. However, little information is available regarding the role of left ventricular hypertrophy in blood pressure (BP) control. We aimed to assess the relationship between electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy and BP control in the China Stroke Primary Prevention Trial. The study population included 17,312 hypertensive patients who were se...

The pleiotropic effect of rs7903146 on type 2 diabetes and ischemic stroke: a family-based study in a Chinese population
In conclusion, our study provided evidence that a T2D-independent path was identified out of the pleiotropic effect of rs7903146 on IS. However, further studies were needed to validate the biological mechanisms behind the pleiotropic effect and the modification by l ifestyle intervention.

Association between incidence of fatal intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke and fine particulate air pollution
ConclusionsFatal ICH incidence was associated with PM2.5 exposure. Our results also suggested that diabetes may increase the risk for ICH incidence in relation to PM2.5.

Premature Stroke Secondary to Severe Hypertension Results from Liddle Syndrome Caused by a Novel SCNN1B Mutation
Conclusions:We identified a novelSCNN1B mutation (c.1849C#x3e;A) in a family affected by LS. Patients with LS, especially those with severe hypertension, should be alert for the occurrence of premature stroke. Timely diagnosis using genetic testing and tailored treatment with amiloride can help LS patients to avoid severe complications.Kidney Blood Press Res

The influence of CYP1A1 and CYP1A2 polymorphisms on stroke risk in the Chinese population
Stroke is a sudden disorder of cerebral blood circulation. Many studies have illustrated that dyslipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, smoking and excessive drinking are the traditional risk factors for stroke. T...

Association of KATP Gene Polymorphisms with Dyslipidemia and Ischemic Stroke Risks Among Hypertensive Patients in South China
This study investigates the potential association between KATP polymorphisms and hypertension (HTN), dyslipidemia, and consequently ischemic stroke (IS). Nine hundred and fourteen (914) patients genotyped for KATP polymorphisms (rs2285676, rs1799858, rs4148671, rs61928479, and rs141294036) were analyzed. KATP rs141294036 (CC, adjusted OR  = 1.59, 95%CI: 1.17–2.14,P = 0.003) was related to higher HTN risk. Meanwhile, rs2285676 (AA + GA, adjusted OR = 1.53, 95%CI: 1.08–2.19,P = 0.018) was associated with increased triglyceride level (≥ 1.7 mmol/L). rs2285676 (AA + GA, adjusted OR = 1.80, 95% CI: 1.24–...

< em > HTRA1 < /em > Variants and the Interaction with Smoking Confer the Genetic Susceptibility to Ischemic Stroke
This study aimed at evaluating the association of HTRA1 with IS and four tagging single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were genotyped in a cohort of 4,098 Chinese. The mRNA level of HTRA1 in 72 IS cases and 72 hypertension controls were measured and compared. In whole population, SNP rs2268350 (C>T) was significantly associated with IS incidence (P=0.034). Stratification analysis observed significant association of rs2268350 in male, smoking and drinking populations, rs2672587 (C>G) in smoking and nonsmoking populations and rs3793917 (C>G) in smoking, nonsmoking and nondrinking populations with stroke respectivel...
