Corticospinal Tract Integrity and Long-Term Hand Function Prognosis in Patients With Stroke
Conclusions: The present study showed that CST integrity (at 6 months after onset) in patients with chronic stroke was related to functional hand status. In addition, the mid-pons FA value was more predictive of functional restoration of the hand than the FN or FA value at the pontomedullary junction. These results may be useful in predicting the functional restoration of the hand and understanding the functional prognosis of stroke. Introduction Restoration of hand function is one of the most important goals for patients with stroke (1). Thus, techniques that aid in predicting restoration of hand function are also i...

Egg consumption, cholesterol intake, and risk of incident stroke in men: the Kuopio Ischaemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study.
CONCLUSION: Neither egg nor cholesterol intakes were associated with stroke risk in this cohort, regardless of apoE phenotype. This trial was registered at www.clinicaltrials.gov as NCT03221127. PMID: 31095282 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The impact of parental risk factors on the risk of stroke in type 1 diabetes
ConclusionA history of maternal stroke increases the risk of hemorrhagic stroke in individuals with type 1 diabetes. Other parental risk factors seem to have limited impact on the risk of stroke.

Carotid Endarterectomy After Intracranial Endovascular Thrombectomy for Acute Ischaemic Stroke in Patients with Carotid Artery Stenosis
CONCLUSION: These results indicate that CEA is safe to perform after previous successful EVT for acute ischaemic stroke. Results were comparable with those undergoing CEA only, despite the EVT+CEA patients having more severe stroke symptoms prior to surgery, and timing was similar.PMID:34887207 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2021.10.034

No association of moon phase with stroke occurrence.
Abstract Stroke occurrence shows strong correlations with sleep disorders and even subtle sleep disturbances have been shown to affect ischemic stroke (IS) occurrence. Chronobiology also exerts effects, like the morning surge in IS occurrence. Lunar cycles have also been shown to affect sleep and other physiological processes, but studies on moon phases and its possible association with occurrence of stroke are rare and nonconclusive. Therefore, we studied the effects of moon phases on stroke hospitalizations and in-hospital mortality nationwide in Finland in 2004-2014. All patients aged ≥18 years with IS or in...

Risk models to predict late-onset seizures after stroke: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: The SeLECT model was the only model developed in line with proposed guidelines for appropriate model development. The model, which was externally validated in a very similar and homogeneous population, may need to be tested in a more racially/ethnic diverse and younger population; testing the SeLECT model, accounting for overall brain health is likely to improve the identification of high-risk patients for late post stroke seizures.PMID:34029995 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2021.108003

Common comorbidities and survival in MS: Risk for stroke, type 1 diabetes and infections
Conclusions Given the high risk for stroke in this MS population and the observed complexity among the coincident common risk factors for circulatory diseases, the high risk for type 1 diabetes and common infections raise a need to recognize patients at risk with these conditions and with the other known risk factors such as metabolic syndrome and smoking. The survival disadvantage related to circulatory diseases observed in general population is true also in MS and should be recognized to reduce the burden of disease and premature mortality in MS. Family aggregation of cardiovascular disease mortality: a register-based prospective study of pooled Nordic twin cohorts
ConclusionsFamily aggregation was found for CHD and haemorrhagic stroke. Clustering of risk factors in families increases the risk of CVD.

E-007 CLEVER: clinical evaluation of WEB 0.017 device in intracranial aneurysms - final results for ruptured and unruptured aneurysm at 12 months
ConclusionThese results show good efficacy and safety results at 12 months month, and no WEB related mortality at 12 months. These data confirm the safety and efficacy of WEB 0.017 use in intracranial aneurysm treatment, unruptured as well as ruptured, and are consistent with the results published up to date.Disclosures L.
