Munich atopy prediction study (MAPS): protocol for a prospective birth cohort addressing clinical and molecular risk factors for atopic dermatitis in early childhood
This study aims to comprehensively evaluate individual microbiome and immune responses in the context of environmental determinants related the risk of developing AD in the first 4 years of a child’s life. Methods and analyses The ‘Munich Atopic Prediction Study’ is a comprehensive clinical and biological investigation of a prospective birth cohort from Munich, Germany. Information on pregnancy, child development, environmental factors, parental exposures to potential allergens and acute or chronic diseases of children and parents are collected by questionnaires together with a meticulous clinical examin...

Current Clinical Trials in Pemphigus and Pemphigoid
Conclusions The clinical trials discussed here, which include several trials investigating novel therapeutic targets, demonstrate that translational research in pemphigus and pemphigoid is a fast-growing field. We thus expect that several novel treatments will be shortly available for the treatment of pemphigus and pemphigoid patients. Given the high, and thus far unmet, medical need in this field (110), this is highly encouraging and will hopefully improve the quality of life of the affected patients. In addition to the compounds and targets described here, several new targets have been recently identified in preclinical...

Infant formulas containing hydrolysed protein for prevention of allergic disease.
CONCLUSIONS: We found no evidence to support short-term or prolonged feeding with a hydrolysed formula compared with exclusive breast feeding for prevention of allergic disease. Very low-quality evidence indicates that short-term use of an EHF compared with a CMF may prevent infant CMA. Further trials are recommended before implementation of this practice.We found no evidence to support prolonged feeding with a hydrolysed formula compared with a CMF for prevention of allergic disease in infants unable to be exclusively breast fed. Immunologic, microbial, and epithelial interactions in atopic dermatitis.
CONCLUSION: Recent clinical investigation has significantly expanded our knowledge on disease pathogenesis in atopic dermatitis, and current and future clinical trials will most likely further help to elucidate this complex, heterogeneous skin disease. Atopic and vernal keratoconjunctivitis: differences and similarities
SummaryVernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) and atopic keratoconjunctivitis (AKC) represents two severe forms of ocular allergies. In children both are rare diseases and may lead to visual impairment. VKC is a disease that affects primarily boys and children from 3 to 16 years old. Usually VKC disappears at adolescence. Photophobia and tearing are highly specific symptoms other than those usually observed in common ocular allergy as itching and grittiness. Two forms of the disease occur tarsal and limbal vernal keratoconjunctivitis. Tarsal form is marked by cobblestone papillae on the superior tarsal conjunctiva. Limbal form...

WCD: Methotrexate found safer but less effective than cyclosporine in atopic dermatitis
VANCOUVER, B.C. – In the first head-to-head trial in atopic dermatitis, cyclosporine was about five times more effective in terms of SCORAD 50 but was associated with more adverse events, Dr. Catherine Goujon-Henry reported at the World Congress of Dermatology. Based on the findings,...googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-cta');
