Egg consumption, cholesterol intake, and risk of incident stroke in men: the Kuopio Ischaemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study.
CONCLUSION: Neither egg nor cholesterol intakes were associated with stroke risk in this cohort, regardless of apoE phenotype. This trial was registered at www.clinicaltrials.gov as NCT03221127. PMID: 31095282 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The PAr index, an indicator reflecting altered vitamin B-6 homeostasis, is associated with long-term risk of stroke in the general population: the Hordaland Health Study (HUSK).
Conclusions: Higher plasma PAr was independently associated with increased risk of incident stroke in all participants and across all subgroups stratified by conventional risk predictors. Our novel findings point to and expand the range of inflammation and immune activation processes that may be relevant for the pathogenesis and prevention of stroke. This trial was registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT03013725. PMID: 29381795 [PubMed - in process]

Gender differences in LDL- and HDL-cholesterol subfractions in patients after the acute ischemic stroke and their association with oxidative stress markers.
Authors: Žitňanová I, Šiarnik P, Füllöp M, Oravec S, Penesová A, Ďuračková Z, Vaská E, Turčáni P, Kollár B Abstract The aim of our study was to examine gender differences of LDL- and HDL-cholesterol subfractions in patients after the acute ischemic stroke with focus on small LDL and HDL subfractions, and their association with oxidative stress markers. In addition, we have monitored the 7-day effect of cholesterol-lowering drugs administered to patients after the acute ischemic stroke, on these subfractions. Eighty two stroke patients and 81 age matched controls were included in this study. Blood was ...

Endoscopic gastrostomy for nutritional support in post-stroke dysphagia
CONCLUSIONS: the prevalence of malnutrition is high among patients with post-stroke dysphagia. PEG feeding improves albumin, transferrin, and cholesterol levels. Early post-PEG mortality is high and must be considered on an individual basis.PMID:34632784 | DOI:10.20960/nh.03147

Effects of clinical and laboratory variables at admission and of in-hospital treatment with cardiovascular drugs on short term prognosis of ischemic stroke. The GIFA study
Conclusions: Our study suggests that if a patient with acute ischemic stroke has higher SBP at admission, higher total cholesterol plasma levels, a lower Charlson index and is treated with ACE-inhibitors, calcium channel blockers and antiplatelet drugs, the short term outcome is better in terms of in-hospital mortality and functional indicators such as cognitive and functional performance at discharge.

Impact of early nutritional support and presence of diabetes mellitus in patients with acute stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: the late start of nutritional support was related to worse clinical prognosis. DM is a marker of poor prognosis in patients with stroke. PMID: 32090584 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Dietary Fiber Intake and Risk of Stroke
Abstract Prospective studies show that a high intake of plant-derived foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts, is associated with reduced risk of stroke. Among the many compounds present in these foods, dietary fiber may be an important mediator of the beneficial effects. Meta-analyses of prospective studies have reported an inverse association between intake of dietary fiber and risk of stroke. Findings from meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials show that fiber supplementation has a weak to modest beneficial effect on blood pressure as well as on total and low-density lipoprotein chol...
