The Benefits of Exercise Training on Aerobic Capacity in Patients with Heart Failure and Preserved Ejection Fraction.
Authors: do Prado DML, Rocco EA Abstract Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is defined as an inability of the ventricles to optimally accept blood from atria with blunted end- diastolic volume response by limiting the stroke volume and cardiac output. The HEpEF prevalence is higher in elderly and women and may be associated to hypertension, diabetes mellitus and atrial fibrillation. Severe exercise intolerance, manifested by dyspnea and fatigue during physical effort is the important chronic symptom in HFpEF patients, in which is the major determinant of their reduced quality of life. In this se...

Relationship between Physical Inactivity and Long-term Outcome in Patients Aged ≥80 Years with Acute Coronary Syndrome
In this study, we aimed to investigate association between physical inactivity and allcause mortality in octogenarian patients with ACS. In this study, we included a total of 353 hospitalized patients, aged>80 years, with ACS during the period of 5-year follow-up. The association between physical inactivity and all-cause mortality was analyzed by multivariable Cox aggression. Of the enrolled patients, 132 (37.4%) were defined as physically inactive, and 221 (62.6%) as physically active. Patients with physical inactivity tended to have lower survival rate (21.2% vs. 56.5%,P<0.001) and higher mortality rate (78.8% vs. ...

Mandibular Advancement Devices in Patients with Symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Review.
Authors: Wojda M, Jurkowski P, Lewandowska A, Mierzwińska-Nastalska E, Kostrzewa-Janicka J Abstract Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder resulting from the repetitive narrowing and collapse of the upper respiratory tract. The results of previous epidemiological studies confirm a significant impact of OSA on the health situation around the world. Untreated OSA is associated with many adverse health effects, such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, stroke, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, and daytime sleepiness. Excessive mortality of OSA patients, especially in men under 50 years o...

Early signatures of bleeding and mortality in patients on left ventricular assist device support: novel methods for personalized risk-stratification.
CONCLUSIONS: Early trends in routine bloodwork and platelet function may serve as novel signatures of patients at risk to experience adverse events. PMID: 31055944 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Current Opinion for Hypertension in Renal Fibrosis.
Authors: Sun HJ Abstract Arterial hypertension remains to be a serious problem with considerable morbidity and mortality worldwide in the present age. Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases such as stroke, myocardial infarction, renal failure, and heart failure. Hypertensive nephropathy is the second leading cause of death in chronic kidney disease (CKD) around the world. Long-time hypertension loading results in renal interstitial fibrosis, which is associated with aberrant activation of renal fibroblasts and excessive generation of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. Increasing evidence ...

Association of Cystatin C with Metabolic Syndrome and Its Prognostic Performance in Non-ST-Segment Elevation Acute Coronary Syndrome with Preserved Renal Function.
Conclusion: Cystatin C may be an independent predictor of metabolic syndrome and therefore valuable for management of NSTE-ACS patients. Further multicenter, large-scale studies are required to assess the implication of these results. PMID: 31317040 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Assembling and validating a heart failure-free cohort from the Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) study
Studies examining incident heart failure (HF) have been limited to select populations. To examine incident HF with broader generalizability, there is need to assemble a HF-free cohort using a geographically-di...

Assessing Risk of Future Cardiovascular Events, Healthcare Resource Utilization and Costs in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes, Prior Cardiovascular Disease and Both.
Conclusion: In this large and geographically broad U.S based cohort, CV risk for T2DM patients was elevated, as was the risk for patients with prior CV events, while patients with T2DM + prior CV events had the highest risk of future CV events. The substantial clinical and economic burden of CV and HF in patients with both T2DM and prior CV events suggest a need for an integrated treatment and targeted intervention across both conditions. Increased Risk of Adverse Cardiovascular Events by Strict Glycemic Control after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (HbA1c & lt; 6.5% at 2 Years) in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Combined with Acute Coronary Syndrome: a 5-years follow-up study
Conclusions: The findings indicated an increased risk of MACEs by strict glycemic control after PCI (2-year HbA1c < 6.5% after PCI) in type 2 diabetes mellitus combined with ACS who underwent PCI.PMID:34166166 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2021.1947219
