Clinical Outcomes of Carotid Endarterectomy in Patients With Carotid Artery Tandem Lesions Brief Reports
Conclusions— After diagnosis by contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography, patients with and without tandem stenosis had similar rates of stroke and death.

Safety of percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with acute ischemic stroke/transient ischemic attack and acute coronary syndrome
Conclusions The primary and secondary end points were not enhanced in patients undergoing PCI. Therefore PCI is safe in patients with stroke/TIA and concomitant ACS.

E-033 The smoking-thrombolysis paradox in large vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke after endovascular therapy
Conclusion In stroke patients treated with mechanical thrombectomy, smoking does not seem to be associated with outcomes regardless of stroke subtype or location. Disclosures J. Grossberg: None. M. Bouslama: None. L. Rebello: None. D. Haussen: None. M. Frankel: None. R. Nogueira: None.

Association Between Spotty Calcification in Nonstenosing Extracranial Carotid Artery Plaque and Ipsilateral Ischemic Stroke
Conclusions Spotty calcifications associated with low-density plaque and maximum plaque thickness were associated with ipsilateral ischemic stroke in patients with nonstenotic carotid atherosclerosis, suggesting a role as imaging markers of high-risk plaque.PMID:37183863 | DOI:10.1161/JAHA.122.028525

Coronary artery disease and risk of adverse cardiac events and stroke
ConclusionsThe presence and extent of coronary artery disease was associated with an incremental risk of not only death, cardiac death, myocardial infarction, but also ischemic stroke over a 7‐year period. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Intracranial Arterial Calcifications: Potential Biomarkers of Stroke Risk and Outcome
Intracranial artery calcifications (IAC), a common and easily identifiable finding on computed tomorgraphy angiography (CTA), has gained recognition as a possible risk factor for ischemic stroke. While atherosclerosis of intracranial arteries is believed to be a mechanism that commonly contributes to ischemic stroke, and coronary artery calcification is well-established as a predictor of both myocardial infarction (MI) and ischemic stroke risk, IAC is not currently used as a prognostic tool for stroke risk or recurrence. This review examines the pathophysiology and prevalence of IAC, and current evidence suggesting that IA...

C-reactive protein levels and genetic variants of CRP as prognostic markers for combined cardiovascular endpoint (cardiovascular death, death from stroke, myocardial infarction, and stroke/TIA).
CONCLUSIONS: Both a CRP level ⩾5mg/l and SNP rs1800947 of the CRP gene were independent risk factors for further adverse CV events among patients with CVD within three years follow-up. PMID: 27580453 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Endovascular Stroke Therapy
Semin Thromb Hemost DOI: 10.1055/s-0037-1603984Acute ischemic stroke therapy has rapidly evolved over the past two decades. Recently, a paradigm shift has occurred in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion with the publication of several randomized trials proving that mechanical thrombectomy with stent retriever devices improves clinical outcome in comparison to intravenous thrombolysis. Furthermore, pooled data from the clinical trials suggest that mechanical thrombectomy can improve outcome in a broad range of patients, and that the sooner the intervention can be performed, the greater the b...

Coronary Artery Disease in Patients Presenting With Acute Ischemic Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack and Elevated Troponin Levels
Conclusion: The rate of obstructive CAD in patients with stroke or TIA and elevated troponin levels with suspected concomitant type I MI is low. The cumulation of several cardiovascular risk factors and clinical signs of MI were predictive. AIS patients with large-artery atherosclerosis and elevated troponin may represent an especially vulnerable subgroup of stroke patients with risk for obstructive CAD.PMID:35095727 | PMC:PMC8793351 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2021.781553

Post-intervention TCD examination may be useful to predict outcome in acute ischemic stroke patients with successful intra-arterial intervention
Conclusion: Follow-up TCD examination after IA intervention in acute stroke patients may predict poor outcome beyond angiographic residual TIMI flow.

Early Clinical Signs, Lesion Localization, and Prognostic Factors in Unilateral Symptomatic Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion
Conclusions: In unilateral symptomatic intracranial carotid artery occlusion, poor prognosis and high mortality–associated territorial stroke pattern is frequently observed. Besides, presence of severe stenosis or occlusion and absence of collateral circulation in MCA are associated with poor prognosis.

Emergent extracranial internal carotid artery stenting and mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischaemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Treatment of tandem extracranial ICA and intracranial occlusions in the setting of acute ischaemic stroke with extracranial carotid artery stenting followed by adjunctive intracranial mechanical thrombectomy is both safe and effective, but further evaluation of this treatment modality is necessary.
