Role of Platelet to Lymphocyte Ratio (PLR) and its Correlation with NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) for Prediction of Severity in Patients of Acute Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSION: Platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) is a simple, cost effective and easily obtainable novel inflammatory marker that may help in predicting the severity of disease and prognosis in terms of functional outcome as evidenced by its increased value in patients of acute ischemic stroke as well as its linear positive correlation with NIHSS score.PMID:34227777

Cardiovascular Health in American Indians and Alaska Natives: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association.
CONCLUSIONS: Prevention and treatment of CVD in American Indians and Alaska Natives should focus on control of risk factors and community-based interventions that address social determinants of health, particularly among individuals with diabetes mellitus. Accurate reporting of race/ethnicity is encouraged to address race-specific risk factors. PMID: 32460555 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Association of Mean Platelet Volume with Acute Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident Among Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Hospital-Based Study.
Conclusion: Acute ischemic stroke in diabetic patients is significantly associated with raised MPV level, which is likely to be severe with high morbidity and mortality. Hence, MPV is an easily available blood parameter, which defines platelet reactivity and proves to be a good predictor of severity and outcome of stroke in diabetics. Also, higher percentile of patients showed history of recurrent stroke in diabetics as compared to non-diabetics in whom the MPV was considerably raised compared to other diabetic stroke cases. Modifiable Lifestyle Factors and Cognitive Function in Older People: A Cross-Sectional Observational Study
Conclusions: Lifestyle factors, such as physical activity, sleep, and social activity appear to be associated with cognitive function among older people. Physical activity and appropriate durations of sleep and conversation are important for cognitive function. Introduction Dementia is a major public health issue worldwide, with a serious burden for patients, caregivers, and society, as well as substantial economic impacts (1). Although the prevalence of late-life cognitive impairment and dementia are expected to increase in future, effective disease-modifying treatments are currently unavailable. Therefore, unders...

Periodontal Disease Is Associated With Increased Risk of Hypertension: A Cross-Sectional Study
Conclusion: Periodontal disease is significantly and positively correlated with increased risk of hypertension in Chinese population, and exact mechanisms of this association should be explored in future. Introduction Periodontal disease is a complex polymicrobial inflammation, including gingivitis and periodontitis. According to the 2015 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, the prevalence of severe chronic periodontitis in 2015 has reached 616 million (Kassebaum et al., 2017). In China, the periodontal disease standardized DALYs rate has risen from 24.7 in 1990 to 25.7 in 2013 according to the data from 2013 GBD ...

Spectrum of Eye Disease in Diabetes (SPEED) in India: A prospective facility-based study. Report # 3. Retinal vascular occlusion in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Conclusion: RVO is a frequent finding in people with T2DM. History of stroke carries the highest risk followed by HTN. The management of people with T2DM and RVO must also include comanagement of all associated systemic conditions.

Peripheral Vascular Disease in Patients with Diabetic Foot Ulcers - An Emerging Trend: A Prospective Study from North India.
CONCLUSIONS: Prevalence of PVD is 30% in our study which is more than previous studies showing an increasing trend. NPU are two times more common than NIU. Hypertensive male patients with smoking habits and longer duration of T2DM are most prone to develop NIU. NIU share the similar risk factors with CAD and coexist with other complications of DM which should be looked for and treated. PMID: 28598042 [PubMed - in process]
