Association Between Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events and the Gensini Score or Coronary Artery Calcification Score in Hypertensive Patients Who Have Undergone Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography
CONCLUSIONS: The CAC score and the Gensini score could predict MACEs in hypertensive patients who have undergone CCTA.PMID:37091887 | PMC:PMC10116937 | DOI:10.14740/cr1453

The Versatility of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk Score in Determination of Popliteal Artery Branches Patency in Computed Tomography Angiography
CONCLUSIONS: The 10-year ASCVD risks showed significant higher values in the greater than or equal to 50% stenosis group of popliteal, anterior tibial, and posterior tibial arteries. These findings can establish the further study on how ASCVD risks can be applied to predict the stenosis of these arteries and guide the rationale of preoperative leg CTA for FFF harvest.PMID:36733947 | PMC:PMC9886511 | DOI:10.1097/GOX.0000000000004791

Combined use of the GRACE ACS risk score and comorbidity indices to increase the effectiveness of hospital mortality risk assessment in patients with acute coronary syndrome
CONCLUSION: CCI and its own comorbidity model, but not CDS and CIRS, are associated with the risk of hospital mortality. The model for assessing comorbidity on a 9-point scale, but not CCI, CDS and CIRS, can significantly improve the predictive value of the GRACE scale.PMID:36286937 | DOI:10.26442/00403660.2022.07.201742

Chronic kidney disease is a key predictive factor for potential myocardial ischaemia and poor prognosis in asymptomatic patients with diabetes mellitus
This study investigated 461 consecutive patients with DM. All patients who were asymptomatic and self-sufficient in daily life underwent the ergometer exercise (ERG) test. Coronary angiography was performed if the stress test was positive, or if the patient did not achieve 90% of the target heart rate. The primary end point included major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) including death, non-fatal myocardial infarction and stroke. The median follow-up duration after study enrolment was 35 months for the entire cohort of 461 patients. Eighty-one patients were diagnosed with SMI. The estimated glomerular fi...

Abstract No. 516 Risk of postcontrast acute kidney injury in patients with gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding undergoing computed tomography angiography (CTA) followed by visceral angiography within 24 hours
The use of iodine-based contrast agents may lead to nephropathy, and patients with underlying chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at increased risk for this complication. In a recent study of patients with stroke who underwent CTA followed by cerebral angiography, 9.5% of patients developed postcontrast acute kidney injury.1 The purpose of this study was to assess the risk of postcontrast acute kidney injury in patients with GI bleeding undergoing CTA followed by visceral angiography within 24 hours.

Impact of glomerular filtration rate estimation on cardiovascular events in elderly patients undergoing coronary angiography
Conclusions Kidney function, as manifested by eGFR, has a graded inverse association with the burden of cardiovascular comorbidities and long-term adverse events in elderly patients undergoing coronary angiography.

Distal Vessel Imaging via Intra-arterial Flat Panel Detector CTA during Mechanical Thrombectomy INTERVENTIONAL
CONCLUSIONS: In acute ischemic stroke with large-vessel occlusion, flat panel detector CT angiographic images could successfully visualize vessels distal to the occlusion site with a small amount of contrast material.

Fasting Plasma Glucose and Coronary Heart Disease in a Rural Population of North Henan, China.
In conclusion, among the nondiabetic women in rural areas of northern Henan, both the incidence of CHD and the severity of lesions increased when FPG levels were greater than 5.2 mmol/L, while no significant correlation between FPG and CHD was observed in diabetes-free men. PMID: 33101438 [PubMed]

Fatal Brain Injury Following Carbon Dioxide Angiography
Carbon dioxide (CO2) as a contrast agent has been in use as early as the 1920s for visualization of retroperitoneal structures. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) using CO2 as a contrast agent for vascular imaging was developed in the 1980s. Currently, CO2  angiography is an alternative agent in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and those who are at risk of developing contrast-induced nephropathy. However, CO2 causes neurotoxicity if the gas inadvertently enters the cerebrovascular circulation leading to fatal brain injury.

Dabigatran Reversal with Idarucizumab Preceding Thrombolysis in an Octogenarian Patient with Chronic Kidney Disease and Acute Stroke: a Case Report.
CONCLUSION: Our case showed the effectiveness and safety of giving Idarucizumab followed by thrombolysis in Dabigatran-treated atrial fibrillation with ischemic stroke. Based on this case, the procedure can be performed in an elderly population with chronic kidney disease when administered close to the limit of threshold for thrombolysis. Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury in Radiologic Management of Acute Ischemic Stroke in the Emergency Setting INTERVENTIONAL
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with low baseline renal function had the highest incidence of postcontrast acute kidney injury after CTA and cerebral angiography, but no fatal adverse effects were documented. Thus, patients suspected of having a stroke should be actively managed with respect to neurovascular function.

Patients with Atrial Fibrillation and Chronic Kidney Disease More Often Undergo Angioplasty of Left Main Coronary Artery – a 867 Patient Study
Conclusion: Patients with CKD had more often permanent type of AF. Percutaneous interventions of the left main coronary artery, the only elective procedures influencing patients ’ prognosis, were done more frequently in CKD patients with AF. In-hospital mortality was significantly higher in patients with severe renal impairment. Despite the higher risk of ischaemic stroke in CKD group the use of oral anticoagulation therapy was significantly less frequent and the patients were deprived of the confirmed benefits of such treatment.Kidney Blood Press Res 2018;43:1796 –1805

Differences in management and outcomes for men and women with ST-elevation myocardial infarction.
CONCLUSION: Women with STEMI are less likely to receive invasive management, revascularisation, or preventive medication at discharge. The reasons for these persistent differences in care require investigation. PMID: 30025513 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
