Outcomes of Repair of Kommerell Diverticulum
ConclusionsOpen and endovascular approaches have a high success rate and low mortality risk. Selection of the specific type of intervention should be based on patient anatomy, additional needed procedures, and comorbid conditions.

Predictors of Unfavourable Outcomes in Children and Adolescents Submitted to Surgical Mitral Valvuloplasty Secondary to Chronic Rheumatic Heart Disease
Conclusion: The duration of vasoactive drug use is an independent predictor for unfavourable outcomes in the immed iate and late postoperative period, while residual mitral regurgitation was associated with reoperation, and both tricuspid regurgitation and pulmonary hypertension were associated with unfavourable outcomes.

Thoracic endovascular aortic repair versus open chest surgical repair for patients with type B aortic dissection: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusions: The findings of this meta-analysis study suggested that TEVAR resulted in more short-term survival benefits. Moreover, the reduced risk of acute renal failure, respiratory failure and bleeding was detected in TEVAR group. The treatment effects of TEVAR versus OCSR on specific complications should be further verified by a study with high-level of evidence. Key message Comprehensive collected studies investigated the treatment effectiveness between TEVAR and OCSR for TBAD patients TEVAR resulted in more survival benefits, in addition to lower risk of acute renal failure, respiratory failure and bleeding The resu...

Idarucizumab administration in emergency situations: the Munich Registry of Reversal of Pradaxa ® in clinical routine (MR REPAIR)
ConclusionIn our study, we have shown that the administration of Idarucizumab is a rare intervention and restricted to patients with severe bleeding complications or ischemic stroke. The clinical outcome of patients who received Idarucizumab in emergency situations was poor.

Cervical Debranching in the Endovascular Era: A Single Centre Experience.
CONCLUSION: The results of cervical debranching procedures showed not only excellent patency rates, but also a significant rate of local complications. Carotid-subclavian bypass appeared to be safer with significantly fewer post-operative complications. Staged hybrid procedures also seemed to be safer. Sex Difference of Radiation Response in Occupational and Accidental Exposure
Conclusion and Outlook This review summarizes the data from major human studies on the health risks of radiation exposure and shows that sex can potentially influence the prolonged response to radiation exposure (Figure 1 and Tables 1, 2). These data suggest that long-term radiosensitivity in females is higher than that in males who receive a comparable dose of radiation. Our analysis of the literature agrees with the conclusions of the recent report on the Biological effects of ionizing radiation (BEIR VII) published in 2006 by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), United States (National Research Council, 2006). The B...

Using Dental Pulp Stem Cells for Stroke Therapy
Conclusion and Future Perspectives Stem cell-based therapy is a promising alternative for stroke treatment. While stem cells from different sources, including induced PSC, ESC, MSC, and NSC, have been investigated, using NSC and enhancing the natural mechanisms is most appropriate for brain repair. In preclinical models of stroke, stem cell transplantation has led to positive outcomes through a variety of cellular and molecular mechanisms, many being mediated by the array of beneficial factors produced by the cells. Recent advances in cellular reprogramming have provided alternative sources of NSC to be investigated, allo...

Outcome After Endovascular Repair of Ruptured Descending Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm: A National Multicentre Study.
CONCLUSIONS: This nationwide multicentre study of patients with rDTAA undergoing TEVAR showed acceptable short- but poor long-term survival. Adequate proximal and distal aortic sealing zones are important for technical success. High risk patients and post-operative complications need to be further addressed in an effort to improve outcome. PMID: 30910493 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Temporary oral anticoagulation after MitraClip - a strategy to lower the incidence of post-procedural stroke?
CONCLUSIONS: Temporary oral anticoagulation might be a strategy to reduce the incidence of stroke within the first 30 days after the MitraClip procedure. Bleeding events were not significantly altered due to temporary oral anticoagulation. PMID: 30650019 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Thromboembolic and bleeding risk stratification according to the EHRA valvular heart disease classification in patients with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionThis systematic analysis in real life conditions shows that distinguishing AF patients according to the new EHRA valve classification could be relevant for creating more homogenous groups of patients in terms of TE and bleeding risk. This clearer classification than the previous one should be useful as in clinical research for harmonization of studies, as well as in clinical practice for targeted choices of OAC therapy.

Intermittent upper and lower body perfusion during circulatory arrest is safe for aortic repair.
CONCLUSIONS: Intermittent upper and lower body retrograde perfusion during circulatory arrest is safe for aortic repair, resulting in low morbidity and mortality. There were only modest rises in hepatic and renal injury biomarkers as well as the rapid clearance of lactate. These findings support the continued study of this technique to reduce end-organ dysfunction during circulatory arrest, including expansion to patients with longer circulatory arrest duration and a direct comparison with conventional circulatory arrest without retrograde upper and lower body perfusion. Valvectomy Versus Replacement for the Surgical Treatment of Tricuspid Endocarditis
ConclusionsTricuspid valve endocarditis patients who undergo tricuspid valve excision, repair, and replacement have similar 30-day operative mortality, as defined by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Excision patients have significantly lower unplanned readmission rates at 1 year. Tricuspid valvectomy is an acceptable initial treatment in this high-risk group as part of a surgical strategy to identify patients who are candidates for eventual valve replacement. Further study of long-term outcomes and survival is warranted.

Extended trans-septal versus left atrial approach in mitral valve surgery: 1017 patients experience
Conclusion In our opinion, EVTSA to the mitral valve is safe and reproducible. It gives excellent exposure of the mitral valve under all circumstances without any significant increase in cross-clamp or bypass time, postoperative arrhythmia, heart block/pacemaker rate or bleeding.

Valvectomy versus Replacement for the Surgical Treatment of Tricuspid Endocarditis
Conclusions Tricuspid valve excision, repair, and replacement have similar 30-day operative mortality, as defined by the STS, in TV endocarditis patients and significantly lower unplanned readmission rates at one year in the excision patients. Tricuspid valvectomy is an acceptable initial treatment in this high-risk group as part of a surgical strategy to identify patients who are candidates for eventual valve replacement. Further study of long term outcomes and survival is warranted.
