Interactions Between Acute Infarcts and Cerebrovascular Pathology Predict Poststroke Dementia.
CONCLUSIONS: The risk of PSD varies depending on the presence of chronic cerebrovascular pathologies and type of acute infarcts. Clinical implications support a precision medicine approach for stratifying those at highest risk of PSD.

Leisure activity and social integration mitigate the risk of dementia related to cardiometabolic diseases: A population-based longitudinal study.

High Prevalence of Social Cognition Disorders and Mild Cognitive Impairment Long Term After Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: The study demonstrates the high frequency of social cognition impairment 3 years after the first-ever stroke in young patients. Doctors and nurses should be sensitized to cognitive handicap after stroke because of difficulties for rehabilitation and returning to work.

Associations of Race-Ethnicity and History of Traumatic Brain Injury With Age at Onset of Alzheimer's Disease.
CONCLUSIONS: A history of TBI with LOC was associated with AD onset 2-3 years earlier in non-Hispanic Caucasians and African Americans and an onset nearly 6 years earlier in Hispanic females; no association was observed in Hispanic males. Further work in underserved populations is needed to understand possible underlying mechanisms for these differences.

Is Low Psychomotor Speed a Marker of Brain Vulnerability in Late Life? Digit Symbol Substitution Test in the Prediction of Alzheimer, Parkinson, Stroke, Disability, and Depression.
CONCLUSION: Low psychomotor speed is associated with an increased risk of developing various brain outcomes: dementia, AD, PD, disability, depressive symptoms, and marginally stroke. Low psychomotor speed may be the consequence of a number of discrete cerebral abnormalities and could be considered as a marker of brain vulnerability. In clinical practice, a low score in DSST should be seen as a warning sign of possible negative evolution.

Blood amyloid levels and risk of dementia in the Ginkgo Evaluation of Memory Study (GEMS): A longitudinal analysis.
We examined baseline plasma β-amyloid (Aβ) levels in relationship to incident dementia during a period of 8.5 years in 2840 subjects age >75 years; 2381 were cognitively normal (CN) and 450 mild cognitive impairment.
RESULTS: Increased plasma Aβ1-40 and Aβ1-42 levels were associated with gender (women), age, low education, creatinine levels, history of stroke, and hypertension. CN participants who developed dementia had lower levels of Aβ1-42 and Aβ1-42/Aβ1-40 ratio compared with those who did not. Aβ levels did not predict dementia in mild cognitive impairment participants.

Sertraline and Mirtazapine Versus Placebo in Subgroups of Depression in Dementia: Findings From the HTA-SADD Randomized Controlled Trial.
CONCLUSION: Because of the exploratory nature of the analyses and the small sample sizes for subgroup analysis there is the need for caution in interpreting these data. Replication of the potential effects of mirtazapine in the subgroup of those with depression in dementia with "psychological" symptoms would be valuable. These data should not change clinical practice, but future trials should consider stratifying types of depression in dementia in secondary analyses.
