Cardiovascular outcomes among patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer: A comparative safety study using US administrative claims data
CONCLUSIONS: Our study sought to quantify risk of HHF, AMI and ischemic stroke among CRPC patients initiating AAP relative to ENZ within a national administrative claims database. Increased risk for HHF among AAP compared to ENZ users was observed. The difference in myocardial infarction did not attain statistical significance after controlling for residual bias, and no differences were noted in ischemic stroke between the two treatments. These findings confirm labeled warnings and precautions for AAP for HHF and contribute to the comparative real-world evidence on AAP relative to ENZ.PMID:36879362 | DOI:10.1002/pros.24510

Health care costs for prostate cancer patients receiving androgen deprivation therapy: treatment and adverse events.
CONCLUSIONS: The economic burden of adverse events is relevant to programs and policies from clinic to government, and that burden merits consideration in the risks and benefits of adt. PMID: 24940106 [PubMed]

Cancers, Vol. 12, Pages 189: Influence of Baseline Cardiovascular Comorbidities on Mortality after Androgen Deprivation Therapy for Metastatic Prostate Cancer
ih Shao Few studies have assessed the benefits of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in men with metastatic prostate cancer (PC; mPC) at an old age or with major cardiovascular conditions. A retrospective cohort consisted of 3835 men with newly diagnosed mPC from the Taiwan Cancer Registry of 2008–2014. Among them, 2692 patients received only ADT in the first year after the cancer diagnosis, and 1143 patients were on watchful waiting. The inverse probability of treatment-weighted Cox model was used to estimate the effects of ADT on all-cause mortality and PC-specific mortality according to age, and the...

Systematic review evaluating cardiovascular events of the 5-alpha reductase inhibitor - Dutasteride.
CONCLUSION: We did not find consistent evidence of a significant association between dutasteride therapy and the risk of cardiovascular adverse events. PMID: 23815285 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The association between education and risk of major cardiovascular events among prostate cancer patients: a study from the Diet, Cancer and Health study.
CONCLUSIONS: The risk of acute myocardial infarction was increased in prostate cancer patients with short or medium education compared with long education. Although the educational inequality did not seem to be explained by differences in treatment, lifestyle or cardiovascular risk factors, monitoring of cardiovascular health and health promotion should involve all prostate cancer patients regardless of social position to ensure best prognosis for all. Androgen deprivation therapy and cardiovascular risk in chinese patients with nonmetastatic carcinoma of prostate.
Conclusion. ADT in Chinese patients with nonmetastatic prostate cancer with no previously documented cardiovascular disease was associated with subsequent development of cardiovascular events. PMID: 24803931 [PubMed]

Cardiovascular Disease Among Survivors of Adult-Onset Cancer: A Community-Based Retrospective Cohort Study.
CONCLUSION: The magnitude of subsequent CVD risk varies according to cancer subtype and by the presence of CVRFs. Overall survival in survivors who develop CVD is poor, emphasizing the need for targeted prevention strategies for individuals at highest risk of developing CVD. Testosterone Therapy in Men With Hypogonadism: An Endocrine Society Clinical Practice Guideline.
Conclusions: We recommend making a diagnosis of hypogonadism only in men with symptoms and signs consistent with testosterone (T) deficiency and unequivocally and consistently low serum T concentrations. We recommend measuring fasting morning total T concentrations using an accurate and reliable assay as the initial diagnostic test. We recommend confirming the diagnosis by repeating the measurement of morning fasting total T concentrations. In men whose total T is near the lower limit of normal or who have a condition that alters sex hormone-binding globulin, we recommend obtaining a free T concentration using either equil...

Hospitalization for adverse events under abiraterone or enzalutamide exposure in real-world setting: a French population-based study on prostate cancer patients
CONCLUSION: Our study provides knowledge on abiraterone and enzalutamide real-life safety profiles, especially for events leading to hospitalisation. Despite several limitations, including the lack of clinical data, the safety signal for AKI under abiraterone is in line with results of an analysis of the French pharmacovigilance database, which requires further specific investigations. Enlightening the clinicians' therapeutic choices for patients treated for prostate cancer, our study should lead to clinicians to be cautious in the use of abiraterone.PMID:34224605 | DOI:10.1111/bcp.14972

Comparative Cardiovascular Safety of Novel Hormonal Agents in Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer Using Real-World Data
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that ABI users may be at greater risk of cardiovascular-related hospitalization compared to ENZ users, in particular for heart failure. These results provide clinicians with additional insight on the cardiovascular risks of mCRPC patients treated with NHAs in the real-world and further large studies are required to corroborate these findings.PMID:34706850 | DOI:10.1016/j.clgc.2021.08.009

Impact of cancer diagnosis on distribution and trends of cardiovascular hospitalizations in the USA between 2004 to 2017
CONCLUSIONS: In contrast to declining trends in patients without cancer, primary cardiovascular admissions in patients with cancer is increasing. The highest admission rates are in patients with hematological cancer and the most common cause of admission is heart failure.PMID:35913736 | DOI:10.1093/ehjqcco/qcac045
