Detection of Novel Autoantibodies to Nucleolin's RNA-binding Domains as a Serum Tumor Biomarker Through ELISA
Iran J Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2022 Dec 24;21(6):616-625. doi: 10.18502/ijaai.v21i6.11520.ABSTRACTExpression and location of nucleolin are often abnormal in malignancies, which may result in the production of autoantibodies. Despite this, the identification of such autoantibodies may be essential for the early diagnosis and prognosis of cancers. In this investigation, the recombinant nucleolin protein was generated using an Escherichia coli expression system and was used an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to detect anti-nucleolin autoantibodies in cancer patients' sera. Lung cancer patients' autoantibodies displ...

From “Serum Sickness” to “Xenosialitis”: Past, Present, and Future Significance of the Non-human Sialic Acid Neu5Gc
Conclusions and Perspectives In this review, we have discussed important milestones from the early description of “Serum-sickness” as being due to antibodies directed against Neu5Gc epitopes all the way to the present-day therapeutic implications of these antibodies in cancer therapy. Some of these milestones have been represented in a concise timeline (Figure 6). While the “Xenosialitis” hypothesis is well-supported in the human-like mouse models, it has yet to be conclusively proven in humans. It remains to be seen if “Xenosialitis” plays a role in other uniquely-human dis...

Updated Guidance Regarding The Risk ofAllergic Reactions to COVID-19 Vaccines and Recommended Evaluation and Management: A GRADE Assessment, and International Consensus Approach
J Allergy Clin Immunol. 2023 Jun 7:S0091-6749(23)00746-7. doi: 10.1016/j.jaci.2023.05.019. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis guidance updates 2021 GRADE recomendations regarding immediate allergic reactions following COVID-19 vaccines and addresses re-vaccinating individuals with 1st dose allergic reactions and allergy testing to determine re-vaccination outcomes. Recent meta-analyses assessed the incidence of severe allergic reactions to initial COVID-19 vaccination, risk of mRNA-COVID-19 re-vaccination after an initial reaction, and diagnostic accuracy of COVID-19 vaccine and vaccine excipient testing in predicting reac...

Tumor Suppressors-HTRA Proteases and Interleukin-12-in Pediatric Asthma and Allergic Rhinitis Patients.
Conclusion: Our results suggest that the HTRA1-3 and Il-12 levels might be useful in analyzing the pro- and antioncogenic potential in young atopic patients. PMID: 32560402 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Allergen immunotherapy, cancer, and immune disorders
Curr Opin Allergy Clin Immunol. 2022 Sep 21. doi: 10.1097/ACI.0000000000000858. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF THE REVIEW: The purpose of this review is to provide an update on the intriguing relationships between allergies, allergen immunotherapy, cancer, and immune disorders. Allergic diseases and cancer are increasing in incidence and prevalence and a potential relationship, or not, between these diseases have been suggested for many years.RECENT FINDINGS: Recent findings suggest that there may be some causative effects between certain types of cancer and allergic diseases, as described in the text. Some types...

Effects of Orally Ingested Arsenic on Respiratory Epithelial Permeability to Bacteria and Small Molecules in Mice
Conclusions: Peroral arsenic has little effect on local airway immune responses to bacteria but compromises respiratory epithelial barrier integrity, increasing systemic translocation of inhaled pathogens and small molecules. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP1878 Received: 09 March 2017 Revised: 14 August 2017 Accepted: 16 August 2017 Published: 28 September 2017 Address correspondence to M.B. Markers of Pulmonary Oxygen Toxicity in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Using Exhaled Breath Analysis
Conclusion In this study, after daily HBOT for 6 days, we identified 11 VOCs which could be divided into two PCs. PC1 (inflammation) showed no significant changes over time, PC2 (methyl alkanes) was significantly reduced after daily exposure for 5 days, to approximately 60% after 2 days’ rest. This suggests that daily HBOT does not induce cumulative damage to the pulmonary system of healthy volunteers, but triggers an adaptive response. Additional studies including more treatment sessions, and perhaps additional systemic parameters on radical oxygen scavengers and inflammatory markers, are necessary to substantiate...
