Infertility etiologies are genetically and clinically linked with other diseases in single meta-diseases
The present review aims to ascertain whether different infertility etiologies share particular genes and/or molecular pathways with other pathologies and are associated with distinct and particular risks of later-life morbidity and mortality. In order to reach this aim, we use two different sources of information: (1) a public web server named DiseaseConnect (http://disease-connect.org) focused on the analysis of common genes and molecular mechanisms shared by diseases by integrating comprehensive omics and literature data; and (2) a literature search directed to find clinical comorbid relationships of infertility etiologi...

TNF-alpha inhibitors for ankylosing spondylitis.
CONCLUSIONS: There is moderate to high quality evidence that anti-TNF agents improve clinical symptoms in the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis. More participants withdrew due to adverse events when on an anti-TNF agent but we did not find evidence of an increase in serious adverse events, though event rates were low and trials had a short duration. The short-term toxicity profile appears acceptable. Based on indirect comparison methodology, we are uncertain whether there are differences between anti-TNF agents in terms of the key benefit or harm outcomes. The role of endoscopy in the management of premalignant and malignant conditions of the stomach
This is one of a series of statements discussing the use of GI endoscopy in common clinical situations. The Standards of Practice Committee of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) prepared this text. In preparing this guideline, a search of the medical literature was performed by using PubMed from January 1980 through March 2014 by using the keyword(s) “gastric tumor,” “gastric cancer,” “gastric lymphoma,” “gastric and adenocarcinoma,” “gastrointestinal stromal tumor,” “gastrointestinal endoscopy,” “endoscopy,” “endoscopic procedures,” and “procedures.” The search w...

Endometriosis: a high-risk population for major chronic diseases?
CONCLUSIONS Increasing evidence suggests that endometriosis patients are at higher risk of several chronic diseases. Although the underlying mechanisms are not yet understood, the available data to date suggest that endometriosis is not harmless with respects to women's long-term health. If these relationships are confirmed, these findings may have important implications in screening practices and in the management and care of endometriosis patients.

Topical tacrolimus for atopic dermatitis.
CONCLUSIONS: Tacrolimus 0.1% was better than low-potency corticosteroids pimecrolimus 1% and tacrolimus 0.03%. Results were equivocal when comparing both dose formulations to moderate-to-potent corticosteroids. Tacrolimus 0.03% was superior to mild corticosteroids and pimecrolimus. Both tacrolimus formulations seemed to be safe, and no evidence was found to support the possible increased risk of malignancies or skin atrophy with their use. The reliability and strength of the evidence was limited by the lack of data; thus, findings of this review should be interpreted with caution. We did not evaluate costs. PMID: 2613...

Incidence of malignancy in adult patients with rheumatoid arthritis: a meta-analysis
Conclusions: The additional data evaluated here are consistent with previously reported data. Patients with RA are at an increased risk of lung and lymphoma malignancies compared with the general population. Quantifying differences in malignancy rates between non-biologic and biologic DMARD-treated patients with RA may further highlight which malignancies may be related to treatment rather than to the underlying disease.

An update of laboratory diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Helicobacter pylori is a micro-aerophilic, slow-growing, Gram-negative spiral bacterium that colonizes the mucous lining of the human stomach. Infection with this bacterium has been identified as a cause of gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. Globally, the prevalence of H. pylori-related infection is high compared to any other infectious diseases, and the rate of prevalence much higher in developing countries than in developed nations. This review article aims to describe the trend of H. pylori-related works in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the use of various lab...

Human Herpesvirus Type-8-associated Large B Cell Lymphoma (HHV-8-LBL). A Non- Serous Extra-Cavitary Variant of Primary Effusion Lymphoma in an HIV-Infected Man: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Conclusions Our patient’s high CD4+ cell count, lack of pre-existing AIDS diagnosis and excellent response to chemotherapy highlights that HHV-8-LBL may have a distinct clinical picture and possibly a better response to chemotherapy than classic PEL. HHV-8-LBL should be included in the differential diagnosis of HIV patients with solid lesions. It is essential that patients’ CDC HIV clinical status and HIV viral load at time of diagnosis of PEL and HHV-8-LBL be reported and that clinical results include longer-term follow-up. Only then can a more complete clinical picture of this little appreciated and understood PEL va...

A child with mastocytosis and lymphomatoid papulosis
Key Clinical Message A change in clinical behavior of a disease should prompt search for differential diagnoses. Here, the appearance of ulcerated skin nodules in a preexisting cutaneous mastocytosis revealed a concurrent lymphomatoid papulosis – a CD30+ lymphoproliferative skin disease with histological features of a malignant lymphoma, but with a benign self‐healing course. Utility of FDG PET/CT in identifying the underlying cause of FUO in an inpatient population, a 10-year experience
Conclusions FDG PET/CT imaging has high diagnostic accuracy (ROC AUC = 0.90, 95% CI [0.85, 0.96]) in the evaluation of fever of unknown origin in this complex inpatient population.

Occult neoplasm evaluated with 18F -FDG PET/CT in patients with unprovoked thromboembolic venous disease.
Conclusions The prevalence of occult cancer in patients with UVT was 10.14%. This result is higher than a study recently publish with CT. We suggest the use of 18F -FDG PET/CT as a valuable and better tool than CT alone for the search of occult malignancy in patients with unprovoked TVD RESEARCH SUPPORT: Screening for Occult Cancer in Unprovoked Venous Thromboembolism Marc Carrier, M.D., Alejandro Lazo-Langner, M.D., Sudeep Shivakumar, M.D., Vicky Tagalakis, M.D., Ryan Zarychanski, M.D., Susan Solymoss, M.D., Nathalie Routhier, M.D., James Douketis, M.D., Kim Danovitch, C.C.R.P., Agnes Y. EGFR and EML4-ALK updated therapies in non-small cell lung cancer.
CONCLUSIONS: Currently, EGFR TKIs (e.g.: erlotinib, gefitinib, olmesertinib) and ALK inhibitors (crizotinib, ceritinib, alectinib) provided a new face for advanced NSCLC outcomes. To understand the disease molecular profile is mandatory to define the best approach for each patient. PMID: 27491402 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
