Public health and evidence-informed policy-making: The case of a commonly used herbicide
Discussion Drawing conclusions on the causation of adverse health effects by environmental chemicals can have important societal consequences, leading to policy-making which can control, limit or even prevent the exposure to the pollutant through regulation and litigation. There are critical lessons to be learned from the Monsanto saga. The whole process of evidence-informed policy-making is under threat. The case of glyphosyte is by no means over; further research is needed to cover the knowledge gaps, but this should be done independently and with full transparency. The IARC Monographs provide the scientific evaluation ...

Interim PET-results for prognosis in adults with Hodgkin lymphoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis of prognostic factor studies.
CONCLUSIONS: This review provides moderate-certainty evidence that interim PET scan results predict OS, and very low-certainty evidence that interim PET scan results predict progression-free survival in treated individuals with HL. This evidence is primarily based on unadjusted data. More studies are needed to test the adjusted prognostic ability of interim PET against established prognostic factors. Death by Implants: Critical Analysis of the FDA-MAUDE Database on Breast Implant-related Mortality
Conclusions: Although there exists a need for more comprehensive reporting in federal databases, the information available should be considered for a more complete understanding of implant-associated adverse outcomes. With only 46% of FDA-reported implant-related deaths demonstrated to be truly associated with breast implant use, there exists a need for public awareness and education on breast implant safety.

18 F-FDG PET/CT role in Burkitt lymphoma
ConclusionsBL is an18F-FDG-avid lymphoma histotype and18F-FDG PET/CT is the best imaging tool to stage patients affected by BL. Preliminary findings about the usefulness of FDG PET/CT features in the evaluation of treatment response and prognosis are available without strong evidence.

Access to Meckel ’s cave for biopsies of indeterminate lesions: a systematic review
This article first analyses available routes to approach Meckel’s cave and presents furthermore an illustrative case. We conducted a systematic review and reported according to the guidelines for preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA). Various surgical approaches identified through the search are evaluated and discussed in detail. Additionally, we report on a case of woman with a lesion in MC, which was accessed through an endoscopic transpterygoid approach subsequently diagnosed as a diffuse large B cell lymphoma. Our search delivered 75 articles that included case reports (n = 2...

Online Patient Resources for Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma: A Readability Analysis
In this study, we examined the readability levels of online BIA-ALCL patient resources using multiple verified reading scores. Methods “BIA-ALCL” and “breast implant–associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma” were entered into 3 Internet search engines. The top 20 results for each were filtered by resource type and intended audience (physician vs patient). Published scientific articles, online database physician resources, and Web sites requiring subscriptions or fees were excluded. We then examined the readability of each with multiple verified reading scores, including the Flesch-Kincaid, Gunning-Fog, Colema...

Germinotropic lymphoproliferative disorder: a systematic review
AbstractGerminotropic lymphoproliferative disorder is a rare and rather enigmatic novel entity with distinctive clinicopathological features, one of which is the typical co-infection byHuman herpesvirus 8 and Epstein-Barr virus.Human herpesvirus 8 is a lymphotropic virus detected in Kaposi sarcoma, multicentric Castleman disease, primary effusion lymphoma,Human herpesvirus 8-positive diffuse large B cell lymphoma not otherwise specified, and germinotropic lymphoproliferative disorder. Co-infection byHuman herpesvirus 8 and Epstein-Barr virus is identified only in two lymphoproliferative diseases: germinotropic lymphoprolif...

Contemporary strategies to improve outcomes for peripheral T-cell lymphoma patients following the failure of first-line therapy.
Authors: Kallam A, Armitage JO Abstract INTRODUCTION: T cell lymphomas are a heterogeneous group, with varying incidences, geographic patterns, and risk factors. Although until recently approached in a manner similar to B cell lymphomas, the treatment outcomes are poor and this disease is characterized by high relapse rates. The treatment advances in PTCL have been slow compared to B cell lymphomas. The outcomes of patients who progress following stem cell transplantation are worse. AREAS COVERED: This review focuses on the novel targeted agents that are approved and/or are under investigation for patients with...

18F-FDG PET/CT Confirms a High Proportion of Advanced Disease at Baseline in ALK Gene Rearranged Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Case Review and Comparison with Diagnostic CT
Conclusions: Metastatic disease was present on baseline PET/CT imaging in 65% of patients in this cohort, with a high percentage (64% of patients with metastatic disease and 41% of patients overall) presenting with multiple sites of metastases. 18F-FDG PET/CT has demonstrated an important role in baseline imaging of ALK patients, offering a 60% change in staging over diagnostic CT chest and abdomen alone.

Baseline Primary Tumour Characteristics of ALK Gene Rearranged Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer on 18F-FDG PET/CT
Conclusions: On baseline PET/CT, primary lung cancers with ALK gene rearrangements were most commonly large tumours, with marked hypermetabolism and an epicentre centrally within the lung. Of the minority of peripherally centred tumours, a basal location was favoured. ALK NSCLC is diagnosed in a wide age range, with a slight female predilection in this cohort.

The Safety of Radiotherapy in the Treatment of Primary Cutaneous B-Cell Lymphoma: A Multidisciplinary Systematic Review
Primary cutaneous B-cell lymphomas (PCBCL) are rare types of extranodal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The choice of treatment usually depends on the variant of PCBCL, number, size, and location of the lesions, involved body surface area as well as patient's age and health condition. The efficacy of radiotherapy (RT) in the treatment of PCBCL has been widely reported conversely, data about the acute and late skin toxicity, patient's treatment satisfaction and quality of life are scarce. A systematic search using PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane library was performed to identify full original articles analyzing the safety of RT in pat...

An evaluation of polatuzumab vedotin for the treatment of patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
Authors: Walji M, Assouline S Abstract INTRODUCTION: Diffuse Large B-Cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most commonly diagnosed form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in adults. Most patients receive an initial treatment with chemo-immunotherapy, which includes rituximab, cyclophosphamide, vincristine, doxorubicin and prednisone (R-CHOP). Cure rates are high but those who relapse, or do not respond to initial therapy, have a poor prognosis. Polatuzumab vedotin, an anti-CD79b monoclonal antibody conjugated to the cytotoxic payload monomethyl aurostatin-E (MMAE), in combination with bendamustine and rituximab (polatuzumab-BR) ...
