Red cell distribution width-a potential prognostic indicator for colorectal cancer patients after radical resection in China
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings demonstrate that preoperative RDW may represent a simple and powerful prognostic factor for CRC patients after radical resection. Integrating RDW into clinical practice may better inform the prognosis and optimize therapeutic approaches for patients with CRC.PMID:37720452 | PMC:PMC10502564 | DOI:10.21037/jgo-23-54

Correlation between High Incidence of Colorectal Neoplastic Polyps and High-risk Adenomas in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that patients with DM, age ≥ 50 years, male gender, alcohol consumption, and a first-degree relative with a history of CRC should undergo regular endoscopic screening and colonic polypectomy.PMID:37711116 | DOI:10.2174/1871530323666230913105743

Interventional effects of oral microecological agents on perioperative indicators of colorectal cancer: a meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: By increasing the number of beneficial flora such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium and decreasing the number of harmful flora such as Escherichia coli, the micro-ecological preparation group is beneficial in improving the ecological dysregulation in colorectal cancer patients receiving different treatments in the perioperative period. The microecological preparation group was able to reduce many types of adverse drug reactions, such as infections and gastrointestinal discomfort, compared to the control group. The microecological agents also reduced inflammatory responses, decreased the increase in harmful m...

Genetic variants that impact alternative polyadenylation in cancer represent candidate causal risk loci
Cancer Res. 2023 Sep 5. doi: 10.1158/0008-5472.CAN-23-0251. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlternative polyadenylation (APA) is emerging as a major mechanism of post-transcriptional regulation. APA can impact the development and progression of cancer, suggesting that the genetic determinants of APA might play an important role in regulating cancer risk. Here, we depicted a pan-cancer atlas of human APA quantitative trait loci (apaQTLs), containing approximately 0.7 million apaQTLs across 32 cancer types. Systematic multi-omics analyses indicated that cancer apaQTLs could contribute to APA regulation by altering poly(A) moti...

Comorbidity Patterns in Patients Newly Diagnosed With Colorectal Cancer: Network-Based Study
CONCLUSIONS: Male-female and urban-rural disparities in the prevalence of single comorbidities and their complex coexistence relationships in new CRC cases were not due to simple coincidence. The results reflect clinical practice in CRC patients and emphasize the importance of measuring comorbidity patterns in terms of individual and coexisting diseases in order to better understand comorbidity patterns.PMID:37669093 | DOI:10.2196/41999

Association of DNA methylation of vitamin D metabolic pathway related genes with colorectal cancer risk
CONCLUSIONS: This study indicated that the cumulative methylation levels of significant CpG sites in VDR and CYP24A1 and all CpG sites in CYP2R1 were inversely associated with colorectal cancer risk.PMID:37644572 | PMC:PMC10463505 | DOI:10.1186/s13148-023-01555-0

Bibliometric analysis of the global scientific production on machine learning applied to different cancer types
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Aug 11. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-28576-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCancer disease is one of the main causes of death in the world, with million annual cases in the last decades. The need to find a cure has stimulated the search for efficient treatments and diagnostic procedures. One of the most promising tools that has emerged against cancer in recent years is machine learning (ML), which has raised a huge number of scientific papers published in a relatively short period of time. The present study analyzes global scientific production on ML applied to the most relevant cancer types thr...
