The impact of high-frequency transducers on the sonographic measurements of the pyloric muscle thickness in infants
ConclusionMeasuring the muscularis propria solely has a better diagnostic accuracy, decreasing the overlap of negative and positive cases. The loss of pyloric wall stratification and echogenic muscularis propria is only seen in HPS.Graphical abstract (Source: Pediatric Radiology)

Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis
(IHPS) is one of the most commonly encountered paediatric surgical conditions. It is estimated to affect between 1 and 4 infants per 1,000 births, representing the most common cause of surgical intervention in the first 6  months of life. The exact aetiology remains unclear. It is known to be more common in males (4:1), especially those that are first-born. Abdominal examination can sometimes detect visible stomach peristalsis in the left upper quadrant and the pathognomic sign of an “olive shaped” epigastric ma ss may be present. Prenatal Opioid Use Disorder Treatment —the Importance of Shared Decision-Making
In this issue of JAMA Internal Medicine, Suarez et al studied a population-based cohort of publicly insured pregnant individuals receiving methadone or buprenorphine for opioid use disorder (OUD) in the US. Their study adds considerably to the sparse literature on rates of congenital malformations among newborns with in utero exposure to buprenorphine and methadone. The authors found a 1% absolute risk reduction of congenital malformations from buprenorphine exposure compared with methadone. First-trimester exposure to methadone was associated with higher odds of cardiac malformations, oral clefts, and clubfoot than bupren...

Optimizing throughput of babies with infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis
Definitive surgical care is often delayed in hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS). Our aim is to evaluate the effect modifiable factors in preoperative HPS management have on efficiency of care. (Source: American Journal of Surgery)

Gastric Explosion While Using Electric Cautery During Gastrojejunostomy: A Case Report
Oman Med J. 2023 Sep 28;38(5):e554. doi: 10.5001/omj.2023.41. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTGastrointestinal gases become combustible when several gases reach a certain concentration. This occurs in situations where the gastrointestinal tract is obstructed for a certain amount of time. Hence, we present this case of a gastric explosion in a patient while performing a gastrojejunostomy. The reason underlying this combustion involved concomitant chronic pyloric stenosis. Operative procedures should include this information to enhance the safety of the patient and the surgical team.PMID:37771887 | PMC:PMC10522885 | DOI:10.5001...

Gastric peroral endoscopic pyloromyotomy for the treatment of congenital hypertrophic pyloric stricture in an infant with a self-made bite block
Rev Esp Enferm Dig. 2023 Sep 14. doi: 10.17235/reed.2023.9875/2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGastric per-oral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM) is reported to be a promising treatment for refractory gastroparesis, on the other hand, it is also an effective treatment for congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (CHPS). Here, we want to report a case in which G-POEM was performed in an infant with CHPS.PMID:37706470 | DOI:10.17235/reed.2023.9875/2023 (Source: Revista Espanola de Enfermedades Digestivas)
