Failed Pre-Employment Drug Screen Influence on Med School Application
Hi everyone, I would need some input on this since I can find no information online. So I failed the pre-employment drug screen for Michigan Medicine due to micro-dose THC (though I'm prescribed Marijuana for PTSD-associated night terrors and sleepwalking) which was expected since the hospital is federally funded. The agency was HireRight and my screen would last for 1 year aka I can be employed a year later if I pass the drug screen then. I don't know if it is true and wonder if there... Southern New Hampshire online for LMHC?
First post so I’m sorry if the formatting is off. I currently attend SNHU online for my bachelors in human services and have been thinking of pursuing my masters from them. I can continue to work and it’s pretty cheap. I work with veterans with PTSD and at a residential rehab facility which both are fulfilling to me. I’m in central Florida and am not looking to move so my other options are UCF, Rollins (which I used to go to and have heard is quite rigorous from coworkers in the program)... Study on skills building/psychoed before PTSD EBP
I recently found out about this study, which looked at offering psychoed or skills building before a PTSD EBP. The study found that, not only did skills building or psychoed prior to treatment NOT improve dropout rates, patients who did preparatory work were 1) less likely to follow up with an EBP and 2) less likely to benefit from an EBP. APA PsycNet doi.apa.org Imo, yet another nail in the coffin for the step-based PTSD approach/"complex" PTSD... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Grad School Advice
I have read hundreds of “lcsw vs psyd” threads…. It appears you can't delete threads and my last one was misunderstood and highjacked. Please bear with my slightly unique (I think) situation.. When I was 14, I decided I would be a Clinical Psychologist. But then, I had been set on becoming an LCSW since I had one at 19 as a teen mom. I am passionate about *teen mothers* and *children with ptsd* as well as faith-based ministry. The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog is one of my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How would you help this type of patient?
I have a patient who is in his early 60s who has chronic severe PTSD and I think likely either borderline traits or borderline personality disorder. This patient doesn't have any suicidal ideation. No mania or psychosis. No depressive episode. The patient refuses to take medication for PTSD, and mistakenly says another physician has told him SSRIs will harm his heart and wont' accept education to the contrary. He won't even listen to that same physician. He will only take clonazepam 1mg PO... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Can you use VR+E to pay for post bac coursework?
Hi everyone, I'm currently active duty and working on a plan to go to medical school after I get out. My ETS is May 2023. As of now, I'm not sure if I will stay in or not; if I do, I'd be in for another 4 years doing a software development program. I only recently learned about VR&E and I'm not sure if I will even qualify but I hope so. I don't know what my disability rating will be. I have a bad knee, sleep problems, and possible mild PTSD from a sexual assault on deployment but it's not... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Tizanadine vs. Clonidine, Guanfacine
I'm a psychiatry resident with many patients who have many psychiatric and non-psychiatric symptoms which would benefit from treatment with an alpha-2 agonist. For example, TBI from MVA, so has issues with impulsivity, anger/aggression, anxiety, and PTSD but also chronic pain, especially back pain. In an effort to reduce polypharmacy and increase efficacy I am considering starting/changing-to alpha-2 agonists I am discussing with my psychiatry supervisors, but I hoped for some insight/wisdom...
