Getting out of retail pharmacy to industry
I've been in the pharmaceutical industry for over 10 years and during that time I've heard quite a few people ask me how they can get out of retail pharmacy and transition into pharma. I've helped a couple friends do this and none have looked back. I've had rotations students ask me for advice on getting into the industry as well whom I've helped. As someone who started in retail and transitioned to a career in the industry, I hope I can impart some useful info. First, it's important to be... Does having a good job help you get into medical school?
I work as a Pharma consultant. I was lucky to get this job after an SMP. I earn 6 figures, and get to travel a lot (business travel is always a lot of fun, and we only stay at 4 or 5 star hotels). Will this help me get into medical school, because it will show my interest? I am 27. Should I mention my salary and travel? (I will be discreet and allude to it). I will earn more in my current job (when you factor in the cost of medical school and years of no or low income). This will show that... Does having a good job help you get into medical school? Medicare for all
Bernie Sanders To Introduce Single-Payer Bill With Major Support In Senate not gonna pass, but it feels like we are trending towards single payer. as long as pharma, device manufacturers, and commercial insurance continue to drive up the costs, single payer is where we will be forced to end up -- for better or worse..... Advice regarding nbme
Hey, so I just took the nbme 11 and a got a 246. Now I know it's a really old one and not really predictive but my question is how much do you think I can possibly get if I'm two months away from my exam. I have to register yet and I can't decide whether I should or not. I still haven't read FA entirely and I missed a lot of pharma questions which I'll review from kaplan. Thankyou! Are there any Pharm D career options that explore creativity?
Hi all, I am entering my P3 year in a PharmD program and I am unsure as to what are I would like to go into after school. I am enrolled in a dual degree program (MHS in Health Informatics), which basically explores the technology side of pharmacy. I also have personal interests in graphic design, mainly logos and animation. I have worked as a pharm tech for CVS and a local hospital and I do not think working in retail or hospital would be the best path for me. I am leaning towards pharma... for those that dont want to practice
I'm almost near the end of my Ophthalmology residency (1 year of training left) and am realizing that I don't want to practice clinical medicine. What are my options outside of practicing that I should consider? Where should I start my search? Options I am aware of - work for insurance company, work for pharma company, work for consulting, work for FDA/government - are there any others? and how would I get started on any of these? Also, I'm not interested in research. Thank you so much for... for those that dont want to practice (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Over 57 and residency - is it possible?
Hello all, I'm concerned about the step for achieving a neurology or psych residency match at age 55/56 assuming acceptance to, matriculation in and stellar performance in Med school (MS). My focus as an older, late-in-life career changing dude (I.e young at heart, financially stable and single no kids) have recently been accepted to a two year post bacc as an older professional - 50 (excellent grades, and 21 years of varied pharma experience). My plan is to complete post bacc, take MCAT... Over 57 and residency - is it possible? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Applying to Pharmacy School after DO Dismissal
Hello everyone...I got dismissed from DO school in 2016 (after about 3.5 years) for disciplinary reasons-leaving on-call early and contacting sites about setting up rotations. Within 6 months of that I was lucky to get a job in clinical trial management making about 70-80K. The company was very nice to give me a chance and I obviously didn't go into detail about what happened as they were more interested in my clinical research background and previous work in pharma. Anyways, I've noticed... Applying to Pharmacy School after DO Dismissal (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Guidance please
I'm a 51 year old who has worked in pharmaceuticals for 20 years and have a good life, financially sound, but I truly want to share the second half of my life as a physician. I have matriculated already in the early 90's but had to stop (in good standing) so that I could deal with my sexuality -was a rough time to take in "both" life-changing experiences - something had to give and my medical career came to a stop. Over the years took a great job in pharma and started paying my loans. My... Guidance please (Source: Student Doctor Network)

NEJM corruption and lack of transparency
Further discussion of the corruption of NEJM concerning lack of transparency among editors, "peer reviewers", consultant fees by big pharma and some device companies, etc. has been growing dramatically in the last few years. The concept of "evidence based medicine" is proving very elusive considering the dramatic financial interests involved in published articles....
