Reduction of Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting: A Pilot Study of Essential Oils in the Autologous Blood and Marrow Transplantation Population
Clin J Oncol Nurs. 2023 Mar 16;27(2):155-163. doi: 10.1188/23.CJON.155-163.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) places a burden on patients receiving blood and marrow transplantation. The effects of complementary aromatherapy on CINV are documented, but more information is needed to implement practice changes.OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate whether pure peppermint or ginger essential oil reduced the severity of CINV.METHODS: A controlled randomized pilot study was conducted using peppermint oil, ginger oil, and control (canola oil) groups. Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 6297: Analysis of the Effect of Various Potential Antimicrobial Agents on the Quality of the Unpasteurized Carrot Juice
In conclusion, the use of antimicrobial agents such as essential oils or their derivatives may be a promising way of improving the microbial quality and prolonging the shelf-life of minimally processed foods, such as fresh juices, but the technique requires further research. (Source: Molecules)

Effects of peppermint oil (Mentha piperita L.) on cardiometabolic and other health-related outcomes: a parallel placebo randomized controlled trial
ConclusionAs both hypertension and high triglyceride levels are important parameters for the etiology and severity of cardiometabolic disease, this trial indicates that twice daily peppermint supplementation (50  μL) may represent an effective means to prophylactically enhance cardiometabolic health. Furthermore, given the negative effects of anxiety on health-related quality of life and psychological wellbeing, peppermint may also be effective in improving both state and trait anxiety. Cross-validation of the peppermint benchmarking experiment across three analytical platforms
The Peppermint Experiment is a breath analysis benchmarking initiative that seeks to address the lack of inter-comparability of outcomes across independent breath biomarker studies. In this experiment, the washout profiles of volatile terpene constituents of encapsulated peppermint oil (mainly α-pinene, β-pinene, limonene and 1,8-cineole) in exhaled breath are characterized through a series of measurements at defined sampling intervals up to 6 h after ingestion of the capsule. In the present work, the Peppermint Experiment was carried out on a cohort of volunteers (n= 11) that provided breath samples in three sittings on...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 5749: Fortification of Fermented Camel Milk with Salvia officinalis L. or Mentha piperita Leaves Powder and Its Biological Effects on Diabetic Rats
tb Elmahallawy The incorporation of fermented camel milk with natural additives possesses numerous benefits for the treatment of various pathological and metabolic conditions. The present study investigated the impact of fortification of fermented camel milk with sage or mint leaves powder (1 and 1.5%, respectively) on glucose and insulin levels, lipid profile, and liver and kidney functions in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. The gross chemical composition of sage and peppermint leaves powder was studied. The chemical composition of sage and mint extracts was performed using liquid chromatography–electrosp...

Nanofiber mats functionalized with Mentha piperita essential oil stabilized in a chitosan-based emulsion designed via an electrospinning technique
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Jul 26:125980. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.125980. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA nanostructured device based on poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) loaded with a cross-linked chitosan (CH) emulsion, soy lecithin, and peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita) was designed for topical applications using an electrospinning instrument coupled to a rotary drum collector. Different suspensions were obtained by varying the PVA to emulsion ratio (PVA:Em) 87.5:12.5, 82:18, and 75:25, using a PVA solution as a control. ATR-FTIR spectra confirmed the interactions among the components of the system. Scanning electr...

Sterilization and reuse of masks for a standardized exhaled breath collection device by autoclaving
Exhaled breath research has been hindered by a lack of standardization in collection and analysis methodologies. Recently, the Respiration Collector for In Vitro Analysis (ReCIVA) sampling device has illustrated the potential to provide a consistent and convenient method for exhaled breath collection onto adsorbent media. However, the significant costs, compared to exhaled breath bags, associated with the standardized collector is believed to be the reason for limited widespread use by researchers in the exhaled breath field. For example, in addition to the sampling hardware, a single-use disposable silicon mask affixed wi...
