Comparison of intermittent screening (using ultra-sensitive malaria rapid diagnostic test) and treatment (using a newly registered antimalarial pyronaridine-artesunate —PYRAMAX®) to standard intermittent preventive treatment with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine for the prevention of malaria in pregnant women living in endemic areas: ULTRAPYRAPREG
This study aims to compare the non-inferiority of ISTp using us-RDTs and Pyramax ® versus IPTp-SP on malaria in pregnancy through a randomized clinical trial performed in Kisenso, Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a malaria perennial transmission area.DiscussionThe results will be essential for the National Malaria Control Program to update the malaria prevention policy in pregnant women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov NCT04783051 (Source: Trials)

Attractive targeted sugar bait phase III trials in Kenya, Mali, and Zambia
DiscussionStrengths of the design include the use of multiple study sites with different transmission patterns and a range of vectors to improve external validity, a large number of clusters within each trial site, restricted randomization, between-cluster separation to minimize contamination between study arms, and an adaptive trial design. Noted threats to internal validity include open-label design, risk of contamination between study arms, risk of imbalance of covariates across study arms, variation in durability of ATSB stations, and potential disruption resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.Trial registrationZambia: C...

Monoclonal Antibody Prevents Malaria in U.S. Adults, NIH Trial Shows
August 4, 2022 -- One injection of a candidate monoclonal antibody (mAb) known as L9LS was found to be safe and highly protective in U.S. adults exposed to the malaria parasite, according to results from a National Institutes of Health Phase 1... (Source: Drugs.com - Clinical Trials)

Insecticide-treated eave nets and window screens for malaria control in Chalinze district, Tanzania: a study protocol for a household randomised control trial
DiscussionITENs and ITWS have been shown in Kenya to reduce indoor mosquito density. However, it is not known if indoor mosquito density reduction translates into reduction of malaria cases. Data from the study will measure the potential public health value of an additional intervention for malaria control  at the household level in areas of mosquito insecticide resistance that does not require daily adherence.Trial registrationThe study is registered onClinicalTrials.gov. Reducing the risk of Plasmodium vivax after falciparum infections in co-endemic areas —a randomized controlled trial (PRIMA)
This study evaluates the potential benefit of a universal radical cure for bothP. vivax andP. falciparum in different endemic locations. If found safe and effective universal radical cure could represent a cost-effective approach to clear otherwise unrecognisedP. vivax infections and hence accelerateP. vivax elimination.Trial registrationNCT03916003.
