HTA242 Incorporating Health Inequalities (HIs) Considerations into United Kingdom (UK) HTA Decision Making and the Impact on Rare Disease Medicines
The objectives were to: 1) Provide an overview of HIs distributional cost-effectiveness analysis (DCEA) and 2) Describe how a novel HIs QALY “modifier” cou ld be implemented - critiquing the strengths and limitations of both approaches. (Source: Value in Health)

HTA322 Modelling Antifibrotic Therapies for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and Progressive Fibrosing Interstitial Lung Disease: Learnings from NICE Submissions from the Past Decade
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) makes funding recommendations based on whether new clinically effective treatments are good value for money for the English and Welsh National Health Service. To date, two antifibrotic (AF) medicines have been recommended by NICE: pirfenidone for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and nintedanib for the treatment of IPF and progressive fibrosing interstitial lung disease (PF-ILD). The aim of our analysis was to review cost-effectiveness modelling methods used in NICE Technology Appraisals (TAs) of AF medicines to identify the strengths and limi...

MT71 Modelling the Value of Integrating Digital Cellular Pathology in the United Kingdom
To understand the value of a digital cellular pathology workflow for a representative National Health Service (NHS) hospital. Cellular pathology departments using traditional methods across the United Kingdom are under increasing pressure to meet reporting demands owing to backlogs originating from the COVID-19 pandemic, an aging population and an international shortage of pathologists. These issues have resulted in longer turnaround times and increased backlogs for referrals of all complexities and specimen types, including cancer cases. (Source: Value in Health)

UK Biobank releases half a million whole-genome sequences for biomedical research
One of the world’s largest databases of whole genomes has just become a lot larger. The British health study known as the UK Biobank today made the full genetic sequences of nearly 500,000 people available to scientists for analysis, more than doubling the size of an earlier data set. Combined with long-term health data on participants, this “treasure trove” has the potential to transform biomedical science, organizers say. Geneticists are excited by the news. Such a large set of sequences provides a uniquely rich resource for studying the biological underpinnings of human health and disease, says Eleftheria Ze...

Nurture Early for Optimal Nutrition (NEON) participatory learning and action womens groups to improve infant feeding and practices in South Asian infants: pilot randomised trial study protocol
This study will use concurrent mixed-methods evaluation. Quantitative analyses include descriptive summary with 95% CI and sample size calculation for the definitive trial. The intervention effect with CI will be estimated for child BMI z-score. Implementation will be evaluated qualitatively using thematic framework analysis. Ethics and dissemination Ethics approval was obtained from University College London (UCL), National Health Service (Health Research Authority (HRA) and Health and Care Research Wales (HRCW)). Results will be published in peer-reviewed journals, presented at scientific conferences/workshops with comm...

Feasibility and acceptability of using the Alarm Distress BaBy (ADBB) scale within universal health visiting practice in England: a mixed-methods study protocol
This study will explore the acceptability and feasibility of the use of the full ADBB scale and a modified ADBB (m-ADBB) scale as part of routine health visiting visits in England. Methods and analysis A mixed methods sequential exploratory design will be used. Five health visitors will be trained in using the ADBB scale and 20 in the m-ADBB scale, from two National Health Service sites in England. Qualitative semi-structured interviews will be carried out with health visitors after they receive the training and again 2 months after using the scales in routine family health visits. Quantitative data will also be collected...
