Comparison Between Intraoperative Target Area CementEnhanced Percutaneous Vertebroplasty and Conventional Percutaneous Vertebroplasty for Osteoporotic Thoracolumbar Non-Total Vertebral Fractures
CONCLUSION: Target area cement-enhanced PVP can effectively relieve short-term pain and functional disability and reduce the long-term possibility of secondary collapse. Therefore, it is a technically feasible and efficacious method for the treatment of osteoporotic thoracolumbar non-total vertebral fractures.PMID:38650561 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.43749-23.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Non-Detection of HCMV Total Genomic DNA in Human Glioma Cells Genome
CONCLUSION: We found that the genomic DNA of all the samples was negative for HCMV genomic DNA. Thus, HCMV could not be detected in human glioma tumors and we put forward that HCMV genomic DNA was not incorporated into the genomic DNA of glioma cells. Thus, total viral DNA is not involved in the pathogenesis of glioma; however, small viral particles or specific genes might be incorporated into the genomic DNA of glioma cells, leading to cancer development. This prompts further studies for verification.PMID:38650560 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.42717-22.1 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Pediatric Diffuse Leptomeningeal Glioneuronal Tumors: Diagnosis, Follow-up and Treatment Options
CONCLUSION: Further work with larger cohorts is required to determine a common algorithm for DLGNT treatment and follow-up. This analysis may keep this entity in mind in patients with pediatric communicating hydrocephalus and may present insight into diagnosis, follow-up, and treatment options.PMID:38650559 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.43742-23.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

The effect of halofuginone use on epidural fibrosis after spinal surgery: An animal experiment
CONCLUSION: Halofuginone helps prevent EF after spinal surgery. However, further clinical and experimental studies are needed to assess its safety in humans.PMID:38650558 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.42998-22.3 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Primary afferents of trigeminal autonomic reflex may not be nociceptive: A case report
CONCLUSIONS: Contrary to popular belief, in the patient who was pain-free after percutaneous balloon compression, the transiently overactivated nerve fibers that led to hypersalivation were not nociceptive afferents of the trigeminal nerve.PMID:38650552 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.34594-21.1 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Systematic review of treatment for unruptured intracranial aneurysms: clipping vs coiling
CONCLUSION: The study showed that coiling was associated with a lower occlusion rate, shorter hospital stay, lower bleeding risk, and lower short-term mortality and morbidity compared to clipping. In terms of ischemia risk, 1 year mortality and morbidity, coiling and clipping bear similar risk. We suppose that clipping may have a better outcome than coiling in the long term especially for young patients. Further research is needed to confirm our conclusion.PMID:38650551 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.23729-18.1 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Health-related quality of life of patients with postural kyphosis compared to spinal deformities in adolescence: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: HRQoL of patients with PK is reduced, similar to that of patients with common structural spine deformities. Recognizing the effects of PK on the HRQoL in adolescents can help physicians to treat these patients.PMID:38650564 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.43440-23.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

CONCLUSION: The results obtained in the present study reveal that in case of implant-dependent infection, the first sample taken can be checked for slime factor, and if there is infection with slime factor-negative bacterium, treatment without removing the implant may be recommended. S. aureus was used in the study because it is the most common cause of implant-related infection at surgical sites. Further studies using different bacterial species are needed to reach a definitive conclusion.PMID:38650565 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.43753-23.1 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Relationship between brain tumors and intracranial aneurysms: a systematic review
CONCLUSION: There is a lack of evidence to affirm that the existence of brain neoplasm plays a role in the formation and rupture of intracranial aneurysms. Additionally, there is insufficient evidence to confirm a greater prevalence of intracranial aneurysms in individuals with brain tumors. The association of these two disorders does not appear to worsen patient outcome. Prognosis depends on tumor pathology for malignant cases and on subarachnoid hemorrhage in patients with ruptured aneurysms.PMID:38650567 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.43614-23.4 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Two-step effective Onyx embolization from the occipital artery for the treatment of intracranial dural arteriovenous fistula: a technical note
CONCLUSIONS: Prior embolization using Onyx or coil of the distal OA helped prevent Onyx from unexpected embolization through the subcutaneous branches that were not associated with the shunt, thereby leading to effective embolization. This new two-step embolization technique from the OA may improve the obliteration rate of DAVFs with OA feeders using TAE with Onyx.PMID:38650568 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.44648-23.1 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)

Full Endoscopic anterior cervical discectomy versus anterior cervical discectomy with fusion. A systematic review

Institutional Experience of Post Traumatic Posterior Fossa Extra Dural Hematoma: A Prospective Longitudinal Study
CONCLUSION: In patients with a clot volume of 15 cm3 and GCS of 15 at presentation with no mass effect and absence of TPF, a conservative trial under strict clinicoradiological monitoring in a neuro-critical multidisciplinary setting can be offered with good results. In cases of altered GCS, findings of a TPF, or clinicoradiological deterioration, immediate surgery is warranted.PMID:38650570 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.44330-23.2 (Source: Turkish Neurosurgery)
