Impact of plerixafor use in the mobilization of blood grafts for autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation
Transfusion. 2024 Feb 26. doi: 10.1111/trf.17755. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPlerixafor (PLER), a reversible antagonist of the CXC chemokine receptor type 4, has been in clinical use for mobilization of blood grafts for autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation (AHCT) for about 15 years. Initially PLER was investigated in placebo-controlled trials with the granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) filgrastim. It has also been used in combination with chemotherapy plus G-CSF in patients who had failed a previous mobilization attempt or appeared to mobilize poorly with current mobilization (preemptive use). This r...

Comparison of Biosimilar Filgrastim (Nivestym) Versus Originator Filgrastim (Neupogen) for Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Mobilization for Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is an optimal and potentially curative therapy for patients with hematologic malignancies. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) is used for the mobilization of peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) in allogeneic donors, and an optimal CD34 cell dose plays a critical role in successful transplantation. Nivestym, a biosimilar G-CSF to the originator Filgrastim (Neupogen), is now used by multiple institutions as it has become more available; however, there is a lack of data in this regard among healthy donors for allogeneic HSCT mobilization. From Error to Resolution: Utilizing a Multidisciplinary Team Approach to Improve Quality Outcomes
At a mid-sized Midwest transplant center, a morbidity case was presented on regarding an error of missed filgrastim dosing x 10 days post haploidentical transplant. The review found multiple missed safety steps requiring the need for several interventions. (Source: Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation)

Identifying causative medications for agranulocytosis: A case report of an older adult with cerebral infarction
We present the case of a 93-year-old man who was admitted for the treatment of cerebrovascular events. The patient was initially prescribed dual antiplatelet therapy with aspirin and clopidogrel along with lansoprazole, Hange-koboku-toh, and elobixibat. On day 36 after admission, the patient was found to have developed agranulocytosis. To improve his cerebrovascular prognosis, we first discontinued medications other than the anticoagulant medicines and initiated filgrastim. We discontinued clopidogrel 9  days after the discontinuation of the other medicines considering his low white blood cell count. One day after the di...

A case of filgrastim-induced neutrophilic dermatosis of the dorsal hands in a patient with Felty Syndrome
Neutrophilic dermatosis of the dorsal hands (NDDH) is a variant of Sweet syndrome that presents with erythematous bullae, papules/plaques, or pustules on the dorsal hands. It is most commonly associated with hematologic and solid organ malignancies, though cases of NDDH associated with inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatologic disorders, and medication exposure have also been described in the literature. Felty syndrome is a rare complication of long-standing rheumatoid arthritis characterized by neuropathy, splenomegaly, and neutropenia. Granulocyte colony stimulating factors (e.g., filgrastim) can be utilized to rescue th...

Efficacy and safety of biosimilar Peg-filgrastim after autologous stem cell transplant in myeloma and lymphoma patients: a comparative study with biosimilar Filgrastim, Lenograstim, and originator Peg-filgrastim
In conclusion, bioPEG seems to be as effective as the originator and more effective than short -acting G-CSFs in terms of post-transplant engraftment in myeloma and lymphoma patients undergoing ASCT. Moreover, bioPEG was cost-effective when compared with the other G-CSFs. (Source: Annals of Hematology)
