Assessing clinical support and inter-professional interactions among front-line primary care providers in remote communities in northern Canada: a pilot study.
Conclusions Important lessons were learnt from the pilot study, especially in better engagement of providers in planning and dissemination. The questionnaire design and the online method of delivery were acceptable. Although important issues were identified, a larger definitive survey is needed to investigate them in the future. Strategies to improve general practitioner well-being: findings from a focus group study
ConclusionThese strategies merit further consideration by researchers, physicians, healthcare organizations and policy makers both in the UK and beyond. A systems perspective on rural and remote colorectal cancer screening access
Conclusions Colorectal cancer screening in remote regions is a complex health systems problem. It is important to distinguish high and low complexity issues as they require different approaches to solving the issues. Contextual factors such as social determinants of health and locum based practice must also be considered. Ultimately, solutions for colorectal cancer screening access in sociocultural diverse remote regions will require a balance between high and low system complexity. (Source: Journal of Cancer Policy)

Exploring the career choices of White and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic women pharmacists: a qualitative study
ConclusionsWomen working part‐time are more likely to face workforce barriers, irrespective of ethnic origin. Cultural preferences may be preventing BAME women from entering the hospital sector. This research is important in the light of current debates about the future shape of pharmacy practice, as well as wider government policy objectives that seek to improve the working lives of health care professionals and promote racial diversity and equality in the workplace. Understanding how emergency medicine physicians survive and thrive in rural practice: a theoretical model.
CONCLUSIONS: The theoretical model provides a more complex view of the realities of rural EM care than has been previously described. It identifies factors that enable and hinder rural EM physicians in their practice, and provides an understanding of the strategies they employ to navigate challenges. Some elements of the theoretical model have been previously identified. For example, existing work has found that many rural physicians experience fear and anxiety in their practice. The challenges posed by the variation in rural practice environments have also been previously identified as an important influence. Other elemen...

Preventing Adverse Events in Cataract Surgery: Recommendations From a Massachusetts Expert Panel.
Abstract Massachusetts health care facilities reported a series of cataract surgery-related adverse events (AEs) to the state in recent years, including 5 globe perforations during eye blocks performed by 1 anesthesiologist in a single day. The Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety, a nonregulatory Massachusetts state agency, responded by convening an expert panel of frontline providers, patient safety experts, and patients to recommend strategies for mitigating patient harm during cataract surgery. The purpose of this article is to identify contributing factors to the cataract surgery AEs reported in Mas...

Medical Care at a Large Vertical Running Event.
CONCLUSIONS: Medical encounters during vertical running events, the majority of which are not life-threatening, mainly occur at the finish line but can occur at any point along the route. Understanding the nature and location of medical encounters along a vertical running event route can help inform event medical directors supervising care at these increasingly popular events.
